Job Summary

Occupational therapist

Position Objective/Purpose

To assess functional limitations of people resulting from illnesses and disabilities and provide therapy to enable people to perform their daily activities and occupations.

Key Responsibilities

Assessing clients emotional psychological developmental and physical capabilities using clinical observations and standardized tests
Assessing clients functional potential in their home leisure work and school environments and recommending environmental adaptations to maximise their performance
Providing advice to family members carers employers and teachers about adapting clients home leisure and work
Providing adaptive equipment such as wheel chairs and splints to assist clients to overcome their functional limitations
Working with other Health Professionals in overall case management of clients
Recording clients progress and maintaining professional relationships in accordance with relevant legislative requirements and ethical guidelines

Requirements

Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Therapy and registered as an Occupational Therapist withAustralian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
Excellent communication skills and the capacity co-ordinate multidisciplinary team care plans.
A commitment to providing excellent customer service- including advocacy for clients and client focused approach flexible problem solving and the implementation of evidence informed practice.
Understanding of NDIS and be able to demonstrate how to effectively work within the NDIS framework to the benefit of clients.
Demonstrated understanding of aged care issues and be able to demonstrate how to work effectively with aged clients and their families.
Understanding of the contribution of service area to NSQHS accreditation and the capacity to implement the requirements to achieve accreditation.
