Finance - Whitehorse Yukon

Based in Whitehorse Yukon on the traditional territories of the KwanlinDünFirst Nation and theTaanKwächänCouncil the First Nation School Board (FNSB) wasestablishedin February 2022. Board run schools are for all Yukon students and aim to promote reconciliation by enhancing a Yukon First Nations model that puts the students first through a strengths-based community-centered approach. Our work reflects Yukon First Nations values.

For more information on the First Nation School Board please visit in Whitehorse the Director of Finance and Operations is a key senior leader within the First Nation School Board responsible for ensuring strong financial stewardship and operational systems that reflect and uphold Yukon First Nations values. Reporting to the Executive Director this role oversees budgeting financial policy and reporting funding agreements audit readiness and organizational risk management. The Director also leads core operational functions including facilities procurement transportation technology and staff pay and benefits while supporting the strategic direction of the Board.

This role works closely with school administrators senior leadership trustees government partners and Yukon First Nations to ensure that financial and operational decisions are transparent values-based and support strong learning environments across the Territory.

We are looking for a leader who brings both financial expertise and a relationship-driven approach someone who builds trust and accountability in partnership with Yukon First Nations and who is committed to financial stewardship that upholds reconciliation supports community-led education and sustains the long-term success of Board-run schools.

What You Bring

  • Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or equivalent
  • 7 years of progressive leadership experience in financial management with responsibility for organizational-level budgeting reporting and strategic planning ideally in the public sector non-profit Indigenous governance or education system
  • Proven experience leading finance and operations teams building capacity and mentoring staff in financial systems processes and literacy
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing financial policies multi-year budgets funding agreements and audit-ready financial controls
  • Strong knowledge of financial systems reporting platforms and data-driven decision-making tools with the ability to evaluate and improve operational processes
  • Ability to translate complex financial information into clear accessible language for senior leadership trustees governments and communities

An equivalent combination of education anddirectly relatedexperience will be considered.
