Purpose Statement
The job of Interventionist is done for the purpose of providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibilities for assisting teachers and administration by providing prevention and intervention services to students with behavioral issues; coordinating the BIST models with at-risk youth and proactively address students needs.
This job reports to the Principal and/or Director of Student Support Services.
Essential Functions
- Assists teachers in managing students whose behavior is out-of-control for the purpose of maintaining a calm school environment and ensuring students success.
- Communicates with a variety of personnel (e.g. students parents teachers administration other staff etc.) for the purpose of expressing concerns resolving issues and develop plans for student success.
- Facilitates prevention and intervention protocols for identified at-risk students for the purpose of addressing behavioral issues alleviating isolation identifying support resources enhancing coping skills and providing referrals.
- Intervenes with chronic offenders for the purpose of de-escalating crisis situations processing the situation providing alternatives and returning the student to regular studies as quickly as possible.
- Maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic lists and records (e.g. evaluations reviews intervention etc.) for the purpose of compiling and documenting activities in compliance with adopted policies and requirements.
- Maintains a visible accessible presence on campus at assigned locations for the purpose of increasing student awareness of program and support services.
- Provides individual and group support to students and parents for the purpose of preventing addressing and resolving behavioral issues.
- Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required.
- Utilizes district approved behavior management techniques (e.g. talking problem through teaching students coping skills physically supporting etc.) for the purpose of assisting students to be able to fully participate in the educational setting.
Other Functions
- Participates in a variety of meetings workshops and committees for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLSare required to perform multiple technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: organizational skills; leadership; intuitive; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records/case management; group facilitation skills; communication; and plan development.
KNOWLEDGEis required to perform basic math including calculations using fractions percents and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals write documents following prescribed formats and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific Knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the
job include: BIST model; CPI; physical and emotional development of children and adolescents; and mental health issues.
ABILITYis required to schedule a number of activities meetings and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and use basic job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with similar types of data; and utilize specific job-related equipment. Problem-solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem-solving with data may require independent interpretation and problem-solving with equipment is limited. Specific Ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: remaining calm in a crisis; adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups in a non-judgmental manner; working flexible hours; displaying patience and a sense of humor; understanding verbal input and responding quickly; and maintaining confidentiality.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading guiding and/or coordinating others; utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the jobs functions. There is some opportunity to impact the organizations services.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling some stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting 50% walking and 30% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment..
Experience:Job related experience is required.
Education:Targeted job related education with study in job-related area.
