Job Summary

About OHB Sweden

OHB Sweden is a leading provider of space systems developing building testing and operating satellites and in-orbit propulsion systems for missions in communication Earth observation and space research. Serving both institutional and commercial customers across Europe and beyond OHB Sweden offers an exciting workplace where you can contribute to shaping the future of space technology.

We are now looking for a motivated Master student to carry out their Master thesis with us!

Background and Purpose of the Master thesis:

Fluidic analysis is a critical aspect of propulsion system design encompassing calculations of pressure drops wetted volume initialization and the modelling of transient behaviours in key flow variables during system commissioning and operation. To increase confidence in the reliability of its analysis workflow OHB Sweden seeks to validate it against relevant experimental data supporting the development of robust and safe propulsion systems.

In this context transient fluid phenomena are particularly important as they often represent limiting cases that strongly influence system design and are critical to the operational safety and health of the spacecraft. Due to their inherently complex nature these phenomena are challenging to predict motivating the need for this masters thesis.

Job overview:

We are offering a masters thesis position focused on designing and conducting experiments to validate OHB Swedens fluidic analysis workflow for transient phenomena. The project aims at characterizing relevant fluid phenomena in OHB Sweden propulsion systems through experiments by designing and constructing representative subsystem sections instrumenting them to measure key flow variables and comparing the results with EcosimPro-based fluidic analyses.

Proposed duration of thesis: 6 months full time. Flexible starting date ideally start in January/February 2026.

Place of work: On Site presence required at OHB Sweden Kista Sweden

Main Tasks :

  1. Familiarize yourself with in-orbit chemical propulsion systems relevant fluidic phenomena and the analysis workflow.
  2. Expand the literature review on analysis tool validations.
  3. Design prepare and conduct a set of representative experiments in OHB Swedens Propulsion Laboratory.
  4. Perform fluidic analyses and validate them using experimental results.
  5. Present findings and limitations of the approach followed as well as if applicable propose strategies to improve simulation accuracy.

Required Candidate Skills:

  • Strong background in Mechanical Engineering Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
  • Knowledge of fluidic and fluid power system and associated phenomena.
  • Previous experiences with experimental methods data acquisition and simulation software (e.g. Python LabVIEW or similar) will be favoured.
  • Familiarity with space systems particularly in-orbit propulsion systems is an advantage.
  • Strong problem-solving attention to details as well as practical engineering skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a proactive attitude.
  • Proficiency in English both written and spoken.
  • Excellent documentation communication and presentation skills for sharing results with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

We preferably see candidates within Europe applying for the thesis.

What We Offer

This Masters thesis provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with in-orbit propulsion systems both analytically and practically by working with real hardware in our lab!

Your work will directly contribute to future satellite missions developed by OHB Sweden. Throughout the project you will receive close guidance and technical support from OHB Swedens team of propulsion engineers.

Were looking forward to hearing from you!
