This position is open for recruitment and fully funded following the 2025 Special Legislative Session.

The role:

Bring your construction expertise to the field! As an Inspector 2 youll spend your days on-site collaborating with contractors and agency teams to ensure highway maintenance and improvement projects are built to exacting standards. On larger projects youll take on greater responsibilityguiding and coordinating inspection efforts to keep work on track and up to specification. Apply today to join our team!

A day in the life:

  • Review and interpret contract documents for construction projects of varying complexity identifying potential issues and coordinating with others to propose solutions.

  • Monitor safety practices attend contractor safety meetings and report unsafe conditions.

  • Oversee traffic control to ensure safety and minimize public inconvenience.

  • Inspect grades materials and construction procedures for compliance with plans and specifications.

  • Verify that required tests are completed documented and shared promptly.

  • Coordinate daily with contractors and project staff to address progress issues and any non-compliant work.

  • Prepare daily reports detailing work performed compliance status and key contractor discussions.

  • Verify quantities complete paynotes and maintain accurate test results and estimates for payment.

  • Record force account or claim information documenting labor equipment and materials used each day.

  • Maintain as-built records and prepare final technical and narrative reports to support ODOTs project documentation requirements.

  • Provide general oversight to assure contractor and DBE subcontractors meet contract requirements.

  • Requires working long and flexible hours being on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week including holidays working outdoors at least 50% of the time occasional travel with overnight stays and lifting up to 50 pounds.

  • Work is performed near traffic and construction equipment in adverse weather conditions near hazardous chemicals and radioactive materials and requires climbing ladders moving around rough terrain and working at heights.

Minimum qualifications:

Three years of experience in the field of engineering in construction inspection or surveying;

OR

An associate degree in the field of engineering (civil or transportation-related) and one year of engineering technician experience in construction inspection or surveying;

OR

A bachelors degree in the field of engineering (civil or transportation-related);

OR

An equivalent combination of experience education and training.

Note: Related experience education and training can include but is not limited to construction management forestry geography geology geomatics mathematics physics remote sensing and urban planning.

Special qualifications:

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

  • Highway or transportation related construction experience.

  • Experience overseeing construction sites and interpreting and applying contract plan and specification requirements.

  • Experience providing construction documentation such as preparing daily reports inspection reports field measurements and interpreting quality documentation.

  • Experience with business software such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Experience learning and becoming proficient with new software.
