JOB TITLE: Assistant Director DAY Program/Counselor
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. A Bachelors or Masters degree from an accredited college or
university with a major in guidance and counseling and course work in
psychology testing and measurement sociology or education.
2. Preferred eligible for a valid teachers certificate with endorsement
in counseling and guidance or LPC.
3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find
appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Executive Director
JOB GOALS: To help students overcome problems that impede learning and to assist
them in making educational occupational and life plans that hold
promise for their personal fulfillment as mature and responsible men and
women. To assist the Executive Director in promoting the educational
well-being of each student and by ensuring the safe effective and
efficient operation of the school.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Be regular and punctual in attendance.
2. Maintain confidentiality of all school-related business.
3. Develop and implement an effective school guidance and counseling program.
4. Coordinate the registration of new students and provide them with an orientation to school
procedures and the schools various opportunities for learning.
5. Develop a method for recording student grades attendance information and other pertinent
6. educational data as well as maintain and protect security of student records.
7. Prepare informative reports and materials for the director fellow teachers/counselors students and
parents concerning the results of the schools testing program.
8. Assist teachers in identifying and interpreting problems that interfere with a students ability
9. to learn.
10. Provide individual and group counseling opportunities that may lead each student to increased
personal growth self-understanding and maturity.
11. Provide family counseling opportunities.
12. Establish a close working relationship with the Juvenile Probation Officers.
13. Establish effective working relationships with employers agencies and other institutions
14. that may be of use to teachers parents and students.
15. Assume responsibility for individual professional development and for attending appropriate
professional meetings.
16. Create and maintain the schools threat assessment bullying procedure and illegal substance
procedure.
17. Execute quarterly safety drill activities.
18. Review and update school safety plan.
19. Revise and update Code of Conduct.
20. Assist with DYS compliance and standards files.
21. Serve as court liaison.
22. Serve as Falcons Scholars in Action liaison.
23. Assume responsibility for transportation.
24. Attend monthly school counselor meetings (Shelby County and Alabaster City).
25. Oversee Backpack Buddies.
26. Serve as person in charge when the Executive Director is not on-campus.
27. Perform such other duties and assume such other responsibilities as the executive director may from
time-to-time assign.
BENEFITS:
1. Smaller class sizes; 15:1 adult/student ration
2. Maximum school enrollment of 60 students
3. More breaks throughout the year (2-week Fall Break 2-week Spring Break Thanksgiving Week
Christmas Break 6-week Summer Break Bank Holidays Weather Days and Professional
Development)
4. Shorter work days (8:00am-2:15pm)
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine-month contract with 10 additional summer days to be
scheduled by the Executive Director. Salary range $55000-
$63000.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the
Executive Director.
