Job Description
The Grazing Animal Care Technician will provide independent high-quality research support for Robin Whites research program within the School of Animal Sciences at Virginia Tech. The position supports animal research activities involving grazing livestock including horses cattle and sheep and is expected to support the labs work in applied animal science research under the Alliance to Advance Climate Smart Agriculture Project. Early morning weekend evening and holiday work will be required occasionally.
Required Qualifications
Significant experience in grazing animal care and husbandry (cattle sheep and/or horses); Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage day-to-day responsibilities; Experience working with grazing livestock in a teaching or research environment including familiarity with animal use protocols and compliance standards; Ability to follow and execute management and feeding protocols accurately; Experience performing basic sample collection (e.g.; feed hair or fecal samples) and maintaining detailed records and strong commitment to safety animal welfare; Proficiency with safe handling of livestock and operation of farm equipment (trailers utility vehicles tractors etc.)
