Job Summary

The Prevention Specialist reflects the mission vision and values of NM adheres to the organizations Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program and complies with all relevant policies procedures guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Assesses local substance abuse problems and develops a community strategic plan using identified resources and gaps.
  • Assess levels of local substance abuse related problems using local data
  • Assess levels of contributing factors associated with substance abuse problems in the community
  • Identify community assets and resources
  • Identify gaps in services and capacity including individual factors and environmentally based strategies
  • Create clearly written programs including reputable references and best practice guidelines
  • Build coalitions capacity in terms of leadership membership infrastructure and readiness to act
  • Develop plan to ensure coalition has members to fill leadership roles (mentoring members increase members knowledge and capacity)
  • Engage stakeholders in prevention efforts
  • Engage stakeholder in developing intentional strategies to sustain outcomes over time
  • Build capacity of local coalition to assist with implementation of the Strategic Prevention Framework
  • Develop a community strategic plan:
    • Address gaps in services
    • Address gaps in community capacity
    • Identifies local problems and local contributing factors
    • Identifies evidence based policies programs and practices to be implemented
    • Specifies performance measures and baseline data against progress and analyzes such data
    • Other duties and responsibilities deemed necessary to ensure the proper organization and operation of the Substance Use Prevention Program.
  • Maintain records in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Maintain statistics and reporting
  • Maintain productivity

Qualifications :

Required:

  • Bachelors degree in behavioral health public health community health or related field
  • Available for flexible hours and days per week (some evenings and weekends required)
  • Available during business hours
  • Computer skills
  • Valid drivers license

Preferred:

  • Experience working in public health or community health; experience working with youth/adolescent substance use/abuse plans.
  • Grant writing and knowledge of SAMSHAs Strategic Prevention Framework
