About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Principal Mining Consultant to deliver high-quality engineering and technical consulting services to Micromines mining clients. This is a senior hands-on role that combines technical expertise with leadership responsibilities providing strategic support mentoring others and helping shape the future of our consulting practice.
Based in Perth you will work on diverse consulting projects across mine planning scheduling and optimisation. The role may involve occasional travel to client sites including remote mining operations offering the chance to engage directly with customers and make a tangible impact on their operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership to the consulting team including mentoring and upskilling junior staff. Contribute to recruitment and talent development within the business unit.
- Review consulting proposals for technical accuracy and risk coordinate project delivery and support budgeting forecasting and resource utilisation.
- Lead mine design and scheduling projects including short- and long-term planning dumping and haulage analysis and model development using industry-standard software such as Alastri Spry Deswik or Vulcan.
- Contribute to mine feasibility and improvement studies by developing mine designs cost estimates production schedules and financial models including NPV evaluations.
- Conduct mine optimisation and improvement work including equipment selection method comparison reserve estimation and rehabilitation studies.
- Support the growth of Micromines consulting business through client engagement relationship management and identification of new project opportunities.
- Identify opportunities to improve internal processes and contribute to the evolution of Micromines consulting services and software solutions.
- Visit client sites as required both domestically and internationally to provide on-site consulting support.
About You
- Bachelors degree in Mining Civil or Mechanical Engineering or in Geological Sciences.
- At least 7 years of relevant mining industry experience with demonstrated technical expertise in mine planning scheduling and feasibility analysis.
- Advanced skills in mine planning and scheduling software such as Alastri Spry Deswik or Vulcan.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of an organisation.
- Able to work independently and take initiative while also collaborating effectively within a team environment.
- Strong problem-solving abilities with advanced spreadsheeting and reporting skills.
- Passionate about mentoring others and contributing to the ongoing development of Micromines people and services.
