The Oregon Department of Justice is seeking an organized and enthusiastic candidate to join the Appellate Division in our Portland office to competently support the criminal team responsible for processing a high volume of Appellate cases. The successful candidate should thrive in a fast-paced environment be adaptable to change and be focused on the job. This position offers a hybrid schedule which requires a minimum of 1 day in office and up to 4 days remote work. Note: Training will require additional days in the office.
The Appellate Division represents the State of Oregon and all its agencies departments boards commissions and district attorneys offices before all state and federal appellate courts and occasionally in state circuit courts. The division through its attorneys is responsible for defending the states legal policies in written briefs oral arguments and occasionally in trial.

What You Will Do
Youll be entrusted to (in part):
Assembling and maintaining physical and electronic case files. Organizing and maintaining filing systems.
Entering or retrieving data in the case management or document management systems.
Processing daily incoming and outgoing mail. Monitor and process transcripts received electronically pursuant to established procedures. Operate and maintain office equipment.
Prepare and distribute a variety of dockets to division staff attorneys and managers. Maintain calendar for cases to pull for oral argument.
Handle any special projects assigned by division attorneys or management. Act as a back-up to other division staff as necessary.

Required Experience and Skills
One year of general clerical experience that includes keyboarding word processing or other experience generating documents.
OR
An equivalent combination of training and experience and college coursework or training in a general office occupation.
Have and maintain a valid drivers license.
Desired Skills Experiences and Attributes
Demonstrated experience providing technical legal support (or above) in a legal setting.
Ability to organize and prioritize work duties.
Experience with prioritizing own work and meeting time sensitive deadlines at times with little notice.
Experience providing exceptional customer service and demonstrated interpersonal skills that include exercising tact discretion and judgment.
Experience working independently but within a team environment.
Experience working in a remote or hybrid work environment.
Ability to maintain punctual and regular attendance and to lift boxes up to 40lbs.
Experience working with court case and legal informational management systems (for example OCJIN OECI ACMS) and intermediate or higher experience working with MS software programs.
Experience with electronic documents document management and case management programs.
