About the Role

Were looking for an experienced and motivated Service Coordinator to support the Senior Service Manager in leading our Disrepair & Litigation Team. This is a key role within City Housing focused on ensuring that Birmingham City Council meets its legal and statutory duties under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985 and Environmental Protection Act 1990.

Youll play a vital part in managing complex disrepair cases coordinating responses to litigation and driving improvements that help protect the Council and deliver better outcomes for tenants. This secondment offers a fantastic opportunity to lead a dedicated team influence service improvements and contribute to the development of strategies that reduce legal action and improve housing standards.

What Youll Be Doing

  • Managing and supporting a team of technical and administrative staff responsible for all aspects of the disrepair and litigation function.
  • Providing specialist advice and guidance on disrepair legislation policy and case management to colleagues and services across the Council.
  • Acting as the key liaison with Legal Services preparing and reviewing witness statements attending court as an instructing officer and agreeing settlements where appropriate.
  • Monitoring team performance and activity levels producing reports analysing trends and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Overseeing budget management and financial processes in line with Council policy and financial regulations.
  • Implementing and embedding IT solutions to improve efficiency and case tracking ensuring appropriate staff training and support.
  • Leading on HR functions including recruitment induction performance management and staff development.
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with internal teams such as Legal Services Area Repairs Homelessness and Regulatory Services to ensure a joined-up approach.
  • Supporting service improvement initiatives policy reviews and compliance with updated legislation.

About You

Were looking for someone with:

  • Strong knowledge of housing legislation particularly relating to disrepair and landlord responsibilities.
  • Experience managing staff and leading service delivery within a housing legal or technical environment.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Confidence in preparing documentation attending court and representing the service professionally.
  • A proactive solutions-focused mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement and delivering positive outcomes for tenants.
