Job Summary

To facilitate the production of vacuum melted ingots from mold preparation to shipping finished ingots. To assist vacuum furnace operators in the master melt process. To take part in the preparation and pouring of ingots as well as associated foundry tasks. To complete ingot stripping grinding blasting inspection using Robotics work cell or manual method. To prepare shipments of finished ingot to the end user. Works in one or more of the following accountability areas.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Preparation.

Objective: to take part in the metal and furnace preparation needed to efficiently complete pouring and shipping schedules.

Typical Activities:

  1. Inspects and delivers metal ingot molds to furnace areas.
  2. Cleans inspects and inserts graphite plugs into ingot molds.
  3. Operates and corrects robot deficiencies and product flow problems as needed.
  4. Loads and unloads ingot molds and mold racks using fork lift truck and overhead cranes and hoists.
  5. Removes from molds cleans inspects type checks weigh and ships vacuum melted ingots.
  6. May load melting pots with metals.
  7. Complete paperwork and logs.
  8. Type checks ingots using hand held analyzer.
  9. Blast grind and mark ingots for shipping.
  10. Type check bag and prepare ingots for shipping.

2. Vacuum Furnace Operations

Objective: to work in team with Furnace Operators to assure efficient accurate pouring of ingots.

Typical Activities:

  1. Inspects sets up and operates MM mold racks.
  2. May run conveyor system to assist in pouring ingots in both Master Melt furnaces.
  3. Observes ingot casting process via window and/or video.
  4. Knocks MM ingots from molds; cleans molds and cuts ingots as required.
  5. Operates robotic work cell and related equipment.
  6. Puts insulating material on top of molds to maintain molten status.
  7. Delivers properly identified ingots for cleaning.

3. Maintenance.

Objective: to clean furnaces and maintain foundry areas.

Typical Activities:

  1. Provides minor maintenance and troubleshoots equipment problems.
  2. Cleans furnaces robots blasting unit and supporting equipment.

4. Safety.

Objective: to take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices.

NOTE: for job positions that require respiratory protection (more than a filtering face piece dust mask):

In compliance with the Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division Personal Protective Equipment standard for Respiratory Protection OAR 437 Div. 2/I 1910.134 and Oregon Health Division Rules for the Control of Radiation OAR 333. Div. 120 (through 330) certain tasks within this job position require/may require the use of a NIOSH-approved respirator. An individual will not be assigned to these tasks if the person is not able to work under these conditions. Respirator selection will be based on the work performed exposure information duration of use and any other relevant factors. If a tight-fitting respirator is required facial hair temple pieces on glasses or other items that interferes with the face-to-face piece seal of the respirator are not permitted.

Typical Activities:

  1. Adheres to plant and department safety rules.
  2. Safely operates all equipment and tools.
  3. Identifies and reports safety problems.

5. Performs other tasks as assigned.

TRAINING:

  1. Training is provided on the job.
  2. PCCs Fork Lift Driving Safety Certification Training must be completed.
  3. Basic computer training may be required.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Ability to follow instructions read write and perform arithmetic calculations.
  2. Ability to lift and/or maneuver objects weighing thirty to fifty pounds.
  3. Ability to work as a team member.
  4. Ability to work in difficult working conditions which may include exposure to noise dust chemicals temperature extremes molten metal and other elements for extended periods of time.
  5. Ability to safely maneuver heavy loads with overhead cranes/hoists.
  6. Prefer previous experience with overhead cranes/hoists and automated equipment.
