Job Summary

Structural Engineer (Custom Homes Sydney Projects)
About the Role
Were looking for a skilled Structural Engineer to support the design and documentation of custom residential homes for Sydney and NSW projects. The successful candidate will work closely with a Principal/Registered Engineer to produce calculations drawings and certification-ready documentation aligned with Australian Standards and local council requirements.
This is a full-time long-term offshore position for a technically strong and detail-oriented engineer who thrives in a collaborative remote setup.
Key Responsibilities
Perform structural design and analysis for single and multi-storey custom homes using timber steel concrete and masonry systems.
Design slabs and footings (including AS 2870 site classifications) floor/roof framing beams columns connections retaining walls and lintels.
Conduct loading assessments in line with AS/NZS 1170 and detailing per relevant Australian Standards (AS 1684 AS 4100 AS 3600 AS 3700 AS/NZS 4600).
Coordinate with architects draftspeople and civil/stormwater designers to ensure compliance and constructability.
Prepare and quality-check calculation packages markups sketches and structural notes for working drawings.
Review architectural drawings and propose cost-effective buildable alternatives.
Respond to RFIs builder queries and variation requests promptly.
Participate in remote site reviews via photo or video; prepare observation reports and defect lists.
Maintain drawing records version tracking and documentation control.
Reporting Structure
Youll work under the supervision of a NSW-registered/chartered engineer who will provide final review and sign-off on all deliverables. Weekly progress updates and turnaround timelines are agreed upon in advance.
Key Performance Indicators
On-time delivery of design packages (target: >95%).
Less than 2% rework due to design errors per project stage.
RFI response within 2448 hours.
Positive feedback from builders and architects.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
37 years of structural design experience on custom residential homes in Australia (Sydney/NSW preferred).
Strong working knowledge of the National Construction Code (NCC) and Australian Standards.
Proficiency in AutoCAD (Revit preferred).
Experience using design software such as SPACEGASS RAPT ETABS Strand7 or Tedds.
Excellent written and spoken English; able to communicate clearly with Australian stakeholders.
Preferred Skills
Experience working on bushfire (BAL) zones sloping sites or architecturally complex residential designs.
Familiarity with NSW planning and certification processes.
Exposure to project management or QA tools such as Monday or Asana.
