Job Summary

The Department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applicants for two full-time tenure-track 9-month appointment Assistant Professors of Latino/a Literature and Culture to begin in Fall 2026. One position will be focused on Texas or the Southwest the other on transnational approaches.

We welcome all qualified candidates who conduct research in Latino/a literature and culture whether regionally or transnationally focused and have additional teaching competencies in environmental humanities. Candidates who can help build existing departmental strengths in health humanities disability studies and/or environmental humanities are particularly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research agenda contribute to the departments teaching mission of the departments (standard teaching load is 2 courses per semester) and fulfill service duties at the departmental university and disciplinary levels.

Texas A&Ms Department of English is home to an undergraduate major and minor; minors in health humanities professional writing and science fiction studies; as well as M.A. and Ph.D. programs. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the College of Arts and Sciences interdisciplinary programs in Africana Studies Digital Humanities Latino/a and Mexican-American Studies and Womens & Gender Studies. Texas A&M University is a Hispanic-Serving Institution and a First-Gen Forward institution. Texas A&M is also home to the nationally recognized Melbern G. Glasscock Center for Humanities Research and the newly revamped Race and Ethnic Studies Institute.

The English Department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to and implement curricula and programs responsive to the needs of all members of the university community.

These positions are part of a cluster hire made possible by the generous support of the Mellon Foundation. Hired faculty are appointed and undergo review and promotion in their home departments. Hired faculty are also expected to contribute to the interdisciplinary environmental undergraduate program which is advancing environmental humanities curriculum. Hired faculty will be affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences Environmental and Sustainability Initiative and the Race and Ethnic Studies Institute (RESI). In addition to the title of Assistant Professor for their first three years hired faculty will be identified as Mellon-RESI Scholar leveraging their expertise to engage with and contribute to the scope of the Mellon-funded LatinTX environmental humanities initiative. This initiative seeks to build a collaborative community of scholars from across the humanities converging to advance transformative conversations toward better responses to everyday environmental issues in borderland communities in Texas and beyond. Additional resources are earmarked to support the cluster hire faculty both individually and in their collaborative efforts.

The position requires a Ph.D. in English Comparative Literature American Studies or related field evidence of teaching experience and a strong record of publications.
