Job Summary

Position Description:

TheMedical College of WisconsinsDepartment of Orthopaedic Surgeryis seeking aNurse Practitioner or Physician Assistantto provide primary or specialty medical care within defined scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed physician and in accordance with MCW/FMLH/CHW policies and procedures. This is locatedat West Bend Ortho Clinic and FMF Surgicenter and Froedtert Hospital.

TheAdvanced Practice Provider (APP)works as part of a multidisciplinary health care team providing a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for the patients of the blended services as a member of theDepartment of Orthopaedic Surgery. The APP will have a strong foundation in evidence based practice and ensure an environment of safe quality care.

In this role you will be responsible for the following:

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring Orthopaedic Surgery intervention in blended environment as a member of the Upper Extremity.
  • Writes accurate and timely progress notes procedure notes and/or admission and transfer orders.
  • Order perform and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests and appropriately communicates and documents information.
  • Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the Upper Extremity services.
  • Facilitates and communicates with patient family and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.
  • Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements including those of the privileging institution CMS and the Join Commission.
  • Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.
  • Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field through educational programs in-services professional associates and current literature.

Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities:

  • Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams identifies normal and abnormal findings including physical cognitive and psychosocial status.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
  • Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
  • Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.
  • Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
  • Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
  • Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
  • Educates counsels and assists patients and families regarding current health problems health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors

Preferred Schedule:Scheduling flexibility required to provide for an appropriate level of patient care coverage. May require evening or weekend hours in the future based on business needs. No holidays weekends or call.

Position Requirements:

Preferred Experience: Zero years of experience required

Minimum Education:

Advanced Practice Nurse: Masters Degree or higher in Nursing
Physician Assistant: Bachelors Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies

Minimum Requirements: *or eligible

Advanced Practice Nurse Physician Assistant

Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner Wisconsin Physician Assistant License

Wisconsin RN License Certification by NCCPA

Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License AHA ACLS AHA BLS DEA

*Adult Care and/or Acute Care NP Preferred

*FNP and/or Geriatric NP Considered
