of Job Duties:The School of Journalism and Strategic Media in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Media Law to start in August 2026. The rank is dependent on candidate experience. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment.

We welcome candidates who have the ability to teach develop and update curriculum for the schools Media law course which is required for all majors as well as some students in other academic programs. The curriculum may be developed as an Open Educational Resource project.

The successful candidate will teach a 2-2 load of classes primarily but perhaps not exclusively Media Law inside the School of Journalism and Strategic Media. The position also includes a service obligation.

Regular reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty as is the ability to create and maintain collegial harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in journalism law or a closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the date of initial appointment

  • A demonstrated record of exceptional teaching and mentoring at the graduate level and/or undergraduate level

  • Evidence or demonstration of an active research agenda and/or scholarly/creative activity

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver course content on media law topics for face-to-face and online curricula

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in interdisciplinary transdisciplinary and/or cross-campus collaborations

  • Significant experience in the fast-changing world of media law areas such as digital media intellectual property or privacy

  • Experience with online teaching and educational technology

  • Ability to write Open Education Resource texts to be used across course sections by other faculty

  • Strong record of successful publication and external funding in the thematic and/or methodological areas of position focus

  • Demonstrated ability to develop effective undergraduate and graduate classes that complement the current course catalog

  • Experience in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in independent research

  • Strong evidence of the ability to be an active involved and collegial member of a collaborative faculty team both on campus and in relevant national service organizations

About the School:
The School of Journalism and Strategic Media at the University of Arkansas is fully accredited by ACEJMC offering a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with concentrations in Broadcast Journalism Journalism and Multimedia Journalism as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising and Public Relations. The Media Law course is required for students in both degree programs. SJSM also offers a Master of Arts in Journalism in total serving more than 950 undergrads and grads in AY25-26.
