Structural Plan Check Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES:Primarily review structural plans for construction projects.

Reviews plans and specifications for projects to ensure compliance with city State of CA and federal laws and regulations. Provide timely oral and/or written communication detailing design and/or construction deficiencies in plans and specifications.
Provide excellent customer service
Review building permits with regards to regulations set by the Building Divisions
Assist inspectors with difficult or unusual code compliance issues and answer questions from inspectors about plan review comments.
Cultivate foster and maintain positive working relationships with directors managers supervisors employees and other stakeholders to gain their cooperation and support on assigned projects/assignments.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Experience with CA Codes specific to Structural design
Experience/knowledge of wood concrete steel and masonry buildings/structures including CBC CRC ASCE7 NDS AISC ACI318 ACI530 and AISI standards.
Experience/knowledge of wood steel and concrete lateral load resisting systems (SMF OMF BRBF SCBF wood and concrete shear walls etc.)
Experience/knowledge of structural design software (i.e. ENERCALC ETABS SAP RISA ADAPT HILTI Profis Simpson Anchor design etc.)
Extensive knowledge of local building codes and current construction procedures/technology
Interpretation of codes in the field and ability to provide code compliant solutions
Must possess the ability to positively interact with the other staff members the general public contractors governmental entities and other clientele
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are vital
Good time management organization and attention to detail skills
Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and a considerable amount of independent judgment
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Structural Professional Engineer Required
ICC Building Plan Review CertificationPreferred
ICC Plan Review Certifications in multiple trades preferred
Valid drivers license with good driving record
E.I.T. on track to obtain PE license is acceptable.
5 years experience in structural design and structural plan review.

COMPENSATION:

Salary Range: $50.00 - $70.00 per hour
