Position Summary
The Controller serves as the senior accounting leader responsible for managing all aspects of financial accounting and reporting for the company. Reporting directly to the CFO this role oversees the integrity of the general ledger internal controls financial systems and compliance across a multi-entity distribution environment. The Controller plays a key role in supporting operational decision-making improving financial processes and ensuring timely accurate financial information to drive the companys growth and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting Oversee all accounting functions including general ledger accounts payable/receivable payroll inventory accounting and fixed assets.
Manage the monthly quarterly and year-end close process to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
Prepare and review consolidated financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Partner with operations logistics and sales teams to ensure accurate costing margin analysis and inventory valuation.
Support development of management reporting and KPIs to monitor business performance.
Coordinate and manage the annual financial audit and tax filings.
Internal Controls & Compliance Develop and maintain strong internal control policies procedures and documentation to safeguard company assets.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards banking covenants and regulatory requirements.
Evaluate and enhance accounting systems and workflows to support business scalability.
Implement best practices for inventory control cash management and reconciliations.
Financial Systems & Process Improvement Lead ongoing optimization of the companys ERP/accounting systems (e.g. NetSuite Microsoft Dynamics or SAP).
Drive automation and efficiency across accounting and reporting processes.
Support integration of acquisitions or new business units as the company grows.
Team Leadership Supervise and mentor the accounting team (staff accountants AP/AR specialists payroll etc.).
Build a high-performing service-oriented finance culture with strong communication across departments.
Provide professional development and ensure clear goals and accountability.
Strategic & Operational Support Partner with the CFO to provide analysis on financial performance cash flow and working capital.
Assist with budgeting forecasting and financial modeling to support strategic initiatives.
Collaborate with operations and supply chain leaders on pricing cost reduction and margin optimization efforts.
Participate in board reporting lender communications and due diligence for potential growth initiatives.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA strongly preferred.
812 years of progressive accounting experience including at least 35 years in a leadership role.
Prior experience in the distribution manufacturing logistics or supply chain sector strongly preferred.
Solid knowledge of GAAP and cost/inventory accounting principles.
ERP system expertise (NetSuite SAP or Microsoft Dynamics preferred).
Strong analytical problem-solving and organizational skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities; proven experience collaborating cross-functionally.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced growing business environment.
