Duties and Responsibilities

  • *Coordinate and lead online and/or in-person meetings trainings and events in their entirety (e.g. marketing recruiting planning prepping presenting) at various locations throughout the state of Hawaii. May need to work evenings weekends and/or holidays as needed.
  • *Support mentor supervise and track data on project participants.
  • *Independently write curriculum for and deliver high-quality culturally appropriate strengths-based and responsive training tutoring and/or mentoring (in person and/or online) for learners with varied learning styles.
  • *Create and maintain a local circle of support for participants with others such as families mentors instructors tutors tech support persons kupuna school personnel and internship sites.
  • *Collaborate with project partners (i.e. Hawaii Department of Education Native Hawaiian Student Services Hawaiinuiakea community agencies) to meet project goals.
  • *Data management (ie distribution collection follow up with participants on missing data entering cleaning organizing) following data security and confidentiality practices.
  • *Coordinate logistics for travel and events including packing and transporting of project materials and/or set-up/breakdown of events (move chairs/tables handling project materials etc.).
  • *Provide support for participant well-being and flourishing through strengths-based approaches that reflect Native Hawaiian values.
  • *Collaborate with the project staff to solve challenges with a solution-oriented strengths-based approach using reflective practices for continuous improvement of the project.
  • Assist with writing and editing project documents (ie reports papers presentations).
  • Orient direct evaluate provide constructive feedback and supervise graduate and undergraduate students on the team as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Education Psychology Hawaiian Language Hawaiian Studies Pacific Islands Studies Social Work Communication Business or related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for education activities/ programming for varied participants; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Considerable working knowledge of principles practices and techniques in the area of Native Hawaiian culture and strengths-based learning approaches as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts principles and methodologies.
  3. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws rules regulations and theories and systems associated with event coordination and management.
  4. Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective innovative and timely manner.
  5. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team leaders and members and individuals.
  7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer apply word processing software and Zoom Microsoft Suite Google Suite Dropbox.
  8. If applicable for supervisory work demonstrated ability to lead subordinates manage work priorities and projects and manage employee relations.
  1. Ability to lift and carry at least twenty (20) pounds independently broken down in smaller loads or utilizing standard equipment (e.g. carts dollies).
  2. Ability to work evenings weekends and/or holidays as needed.
  3. Ability to travel independently to various locations throughout the state of Hawaii in a timely manner. Requirement may be fulfilled by a valid Hawaii Drivers License (Class 3) or other means of transportation which meets position needs.


Desirable Qualifications

  1. Experience working in or with the Hawaii Department of Education.
  2. Experience planning developing implementing and coordinating marketing strategies to recruit program participants and enhance program outcomes.
  3. Experience collaborating with others to solve challenges with a solution-oriented strengths-based approach using reflective practices.
  4. Experience working with projects that serve Native Hawaiian youth adults or communities in education service or support settings from a strengths-based and/or place-based perspective.
  5. Experience coordinating and leading online and/or in-person meetings trainings and events in their entirety (e.g. marketing recruiting planning prepping presenting transporting materials setting up/ cleaning up).
  6. Experience supporting mentoring and supervising participants through strengths-based approaches that reflect Native Hawaiian values.
  7. Experience with data management (ie distribution collection follow-up with participants on missing data entering cleaning organizing) following data security and confidentiality practices.
