As a result the majority of our staff are hybrid and work both from home and onsite. Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week every Tuesday and one other day to be determined by their business unit. Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The Development Division is responsible for raising funds from individuals and plays a vital role in helping to finance broadcast video digital and audio programs including celebrated dramas investigative journalism documentaries childrens media podcasts and other local and national programming in the public media system.

This is a transformative period for GBH as it navigates profound changes in its business model driven by the changing media landscape and evolving sources of revenue. GBH will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2026 and has just launched a comprehensive campaign that will position us solidly for the next chapter of our storied history as a local and national leader in public media.

JOB OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Senior Director of Development Major Gifts the Development Assistant for Major Gifts and Foundation Development provides administrative research and special project support for the Major Gifts and Foundation Development teamsincluding scheduling and coordination of meetings drafting and editing communications preparing research profiles and briefings assisting with donor cultivation and stewardship activities including data entry gift acknowledgement research and general administration.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Stay abreast of GBH events policies and procedures and support all administrative facets of development work.
  • Maintain detailed confidential donor and prospect management information in organizational CRM system including entering Major Gift and Foundation Development officer and staff activity cultivation plans coordination of pledge reminders and management of event campaigns.
  • Serve as Major Gifts team CRM superuser to provide support and guidance on processes and procedures reports and database management as it relates to individual major gifts fundraising.
  • Provide research support to the Foundation Development Team creating and updating briefings and profiles; researching grant opportunities; and assisting with funder vetting.
  • Work collaboratively with Major Gifts research colleagues to maximize resources andassist with donor research for the Development division.
  • Manage calendars and scheduling for senior members of the Major Gifts and Foundation Development teams and coordinate meetings reserve conference spaces and plan catering as needed.
  • Provide support for operations team including processing supplier invoices purchase orders and requisitions time entry approval contracts and supply orders.
  • Draft format and edit letters proposals emails briefings event invitations annual report listings newsletters magazine articles meeting minutes and other correspondence and marketing communications.
  • Assist with stewardship of major donors.
  • Make travel arrangements and manage expense reports as needed.
  • Assist with in-person and virtual events.
  • Manage and carry out short-term and long-term special projects

SKILL SET

  • Excellent organizational computer communication problem-solving and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Ability to synthesize and concisely summarize information. Clear consistent writing.
  • Intellectual curiosity and interest in the development field is highly desired.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 1-3 years of related or transferable work experience preferably in a development or nonprofit environment.
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience required.
