The American Heart Associations Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit voluntary health organization.

We have an exciting opportunity for an intern on our Development Team specifically on the Hearts Delight Wine Tasting & Auction team. As an intern supporting the Hearts Delight Wine Tasting & Auction you will play a key role in driving the success of this impactful campaign. Your responsibilities will include a variety of tasks that contribute to the planning execution of the multi-million dollar campaign.

About Hearts Delight

The American Heart Associations annual Hearts Delight Wine Tasting & Auction is widely recognized as a premier destination event where master winemakers culinary greats and our distinguished guests gather to play and bid in our Nations Capital. This distinctive event is a four-day celebration of exceptional food and wine and has raised over $27 million dollars for the American Heart Association.The 2026 Hearts Delight Wine Tasting & Auction will take place May 6-9 2026. The Hearts Delight team is looking for someone with an interest in fundraising development food wine and travel to join their team for the Spring 2026 semester. As a Development Intern of Impact for Hearts Delight you will assist with the planning and execution of the event in full.

Internship Overview:

  • Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week
  • Internship Duration: 1/26/26-5/15/26
  • Location:In office position in Arlington VA. Office is near a metro station. Must be in located in the Greater Washington Area.
  • Salary: $23.00 per hour

  • Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others.

Responsibilities

Event Planning & Support:

  • Assist with the planning coordinating and executing pre-event logistics and on-site event management for the 2026 Hearts Delight Wine Tasting & Auction as well as other preHearts Delight events (chair reception Champagne event wine dinners etc.)

Event Outreach & Engagement:

  • Assist with the researching and outreach to prospective in-kind donors for event items (i.e. awards gifts photographers auction items etc.)

Sponsor Support:

  • Assist with sponsor presentation preparation and gathering materials for sponsor follow-up after meetings helping to maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Assist with the creation of sponsorship PowerPoints in Canva that will be displayed on screen during the event.

Data & Reporting:

  • Assist with pulling reports data entry and organizing event-related information to track progress and outcomes for the Hearts Delight Wine Tasting & Auction

Administrative Support:

  • Assist with administrative tasks such as preparing printed materials writing thank-you cards to donors and sponsors and organizing event supplies.
  • Other additional administrative tasks as needed



Qualifications

  • Candidates who are seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in business communications public relations nonprofit fundraising or event management.
  • Experience/interest in fundraising development event planning interest in food & wine events.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working professionally with all levels of community leaders volunteers and staff.
  • Proficiency across multiple social media platforms.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
  • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word Excel Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Basic knowledge of Canva.
  • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office and Canva.
  • Required Equipment: Reliable WiFi Connection.
  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship now or in the future. For any roles working remotely the work must also be performed inside the United States not in a foreign country.
