Job Summary

Position Purpose

Responsible for providing psychotherapy crisis intervention consultation and mental health outreach and educational services to enhance the psychological and emotional welfare of PEA students.

Phillips Exeter Academy is seeking a Licensed Clinician to work full-time over 10 weeks during the spring term of the 2025-2026 Academic Year specifically 3/23/26-5/29/26. The schedule is 40 hours per week M-F and after hours call 1-2 times per week. On-call is overnight on the weekdays and 24/7 on the weekend.

Key Accountabilities

Clinical/Counseling

  • Assess self-referred and school-referred students using evidence-based diagnostic techniques.
  • Refer students to specialized care as necessary and appropriate.
  • On-call responsibility shared with other CAPS team. Available 24/7 through the Health Center
  • Provide crisis assessment and intervention for students as necessary.
  • Provide short-term and long-term individual psychotherapy to students using evidence-based best practices.
  • Provide culturally affirming counseling to historically marginalized groups including: students of color LGBTQ and gender expansive populations and students of all abilities.
  • Ensure that clinical consultative and educational practices are sensitive to the needs and experiences of our diverse community including socioeconomic status gender identity and expression sexuality race ethnicity religion or country of origin.
  • Consult with other Academy clinicians (e.g. Director or Associate Director of CAPS nurses physician) about emergency interventions whenever immediate safety and health concerns arise about students. Participate in clinical supervision with Director or Associate Director of CAPS.
  • Participate in weekly case management meetings with the Academys consulting psychiatrist(s).
  • Participate in weekly Health Center clinical team meetings and weekly Deans/Health meetings.
  • Attend Advisor-Teacher meetings as assigned typically one time per week.
  • Work collaboratively with the Lamont Health and Wellness Center staff in addressing the health and wellness needs of students.

Administrative

  • Maintain clear accurate and timely documentation in accordance with the Academys data collection record-keeping and legal reporting obligations/requirements.
  • Maintain records on all clinical encounters using Health Centers electronic health record system.

Educational

  • Provide consultation regarding adolescent development and mental health for a variety of Academy constituents including students parents staff and faculty.
  • Provide outreach education and customized workshops to students on select topics in adolescent mental health and wellness.
  • May serve as an advisor to student leaders and clubs working in prevention and education.
  • Maintain professional licensure in the State of New Hampshire.

Position Requirements

Education

  • Bachelors degree required.
  • PhD PsyD or MSW required.
  • Licensed in NH.

Experience

  • Three or more years of full-time post-licensure clinical experience working with an adolescent and/or young adult population.
  • Experience working with diverse groups of people with understanding that racial cultural religious gender and sexual identities interact with ones beliefs and behavior.
  • Experience and skill treating eating disorders anxiety and mood disorders substance abuse post-traumatic stress and interpersonal problems.
  • Experience and skill responding to suspected child abuse or neglect and alleged assault.
  • Experience and skill working collaboratively to develop facilitate and coordinate prevention programs for adolescents.
  • Experience and skill working collaboratively to develop facilitate and coordinate professional development and training programs for faculty and staff in secondary education.
  • Must possess a record of service that demonstrates concern for the safety and well-being of others.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Outstanding clinical skills including the use of evidence-based practices for treating adolescent mental health problems.
  • Ability to work independently handle multiple caseloads and meet deadlines while simultaneously maintaining accurate records and consulting with colleagues as appropriate.
  • Respect for diversity of identities and experiences an orientation toward equity and inclusion and cultural competency in all aspects of Academy life.
  • Adherence to legal and ethical best-practices as articulated by New Hampshire State Law local memoranda of understanding (MOUs) and either the American Psychological Association or the National Association of Social Workers. This includes the ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for clients privacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with adolescents to build trust and credibility.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships and work under stress.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to write concise logical analytical reports to convey complex issues.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong presentation skills and presence in front of small and large audiences.
  • Strong communication skills- works with empathy compassion and professionalism
  • Ability and willingness to travel (by car air train or bus) domestically and internationally as needed.
  • High degree of organizational skills with the ability to be flexible and multi-task with accuracy.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions maintain a professional demeanor and receptivity to constructive feedback.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word Excel Powerpoint).
  • Willingness and ability to learn additional software applications as needed
