Catapult is supporting our client OpAns LLC in their search for a Lab Technician II. This position is based on site in Durham North Carolina.
Position Summary:
The Lab Technician II will support the daily operations of the clinical forensic toxicology laboratory by performing analytical testing data interpretation and quality assurance activities. This role requires a solid foundation in chemistry and toxicology attention to detail and adherence to regulatory standards. The Lab Technician II plays a key role in ensuring accurate and timely results for legal medical and investigative purposes.
Key Responsibilities:
Analytical Testing & Methodology
- Perform routine and specialized toxicological analyses on biological specimens (e.g. urine blood oral fluid) using GC-MS LC-MS/MS immunoassays and other validated methods.
- Prepare samples reagents and standards in accordance with SOPs and regulatory guidelines.
- Interpret and validate analytical data to ensure accuracy reliability and completeness of test results.
- Assist in the development validation and troubleshooting of analytical methods.
- Participate in internal and external proficiency testing and quality control programs.
- Support the maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments and equipment.
Regulated Study Support (CLIA)
- Support regulated clinical diagnostic testing.
- Fulfill assigned Analyst and Testing Personnel responsibilities including:
- Conducting sample analysis for assigned phases of regulated work.
- Running validated methods under appropriate supervision.
- Maintaining records that demonstrate proficiency testing samples are processed identically to patient specimens.
- Identifying and resolving issues affecting test performance or escalating appropriately.
- Documenting quality control activities calibrations maintenance and corrective actions.
- Ensuring compliance with CLIA HIPAA FDA EPA and OSHA standards.
Quality Assurance & Documentation
- Maintain detailed laboratory records in compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
- Ensure all experimental data including unexpected findings are accurately recorded and verified.
- Archive records securely indexed and in a timely manner.
- Perform assigned quality control data review activities.
Instrument & Safety Compliance
- Support maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and maintain a clean organized work environment.
Professional Development & Continuous Improvement
- Stay current with developments in forensic toxicology and contribute to process improvements.
Other Duties
- Perform additional tasks assigned by management or supervisors in alignment with operational needs.
- Assist in method development validation and troubleshooting of analytical procedures.
- Collaborate with other scientists and technical staff to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality output.
- Performs work under general supervision and can handle moderately complex issues
- Solid working knowledge of subject matter.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Chemistry Biochemistry Toxicology or related scientific field
- 13 years of experience in a clinical or forensic laboratory setting preferred
- Hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation (e.g. LC-MS/MS GC-MS) strongly desired
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements (CLIA CAP ISO 17025)
- Strong analytical organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of integrity and commitment to scientific accuracy and confidentiality
