Job Summary

Compensation Range: $65000 - $75000 yearly commensurate with experience

Overview:

The Harm Reduction Community Liaison builds relationships with community stakeholders on behalf of harm reduction programing. This staff represents harm reduction programing and services delivered through Manhattans Midtown area and the Lower East Side. This staff works closely with program managers community navigators overdose prevention educators and any staff providing community level interventions education and program promotion activities in the catchment areas above. This position actively participates and seeks engagement with businesses community advisory boards elected officials and community businesses as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Participates in monthly quarterly or impromptu community meetings to bring the harm reduction perspective into community settings.
  • Facilitates the development of linkage agreements with service organizations that can both serve or refer participants for services and care.
  • Promotes Housing Works community services and interventions to new stakeholders in the community.
  • Participates in advocacy events and interventions as directed by the Advocacy Department.
  • Attends conferences seminars and gatherings to collect and distribute information to build relationships that will impact program participants goods and services.
  • Carry out advocacy and lobbying work with elected officials and staff in Albany and in legislators home districts;
  • Represent Housing Works with regional state and local AIDS AIDS housing harm reduction people of color LGBT antipoverty public health and other activist organizations and coalitions.
  • Has worked with organizing digital tools like Action Network.
  • Provides monthly narrative of activities and events attended for the prior month.

Other functions that may be required with this position include:

  • Occasional heavy lifting and physical moving of items for events and activities related to advocacy efforts.
  • Occasional evening and night-time meetings as well as weekend and overtime hours are required.
  • Travel to strategic locations in New York State as it relates to supporting city policies resources and relationships.
  • Frequent travel and stays in Albany and other areas of the state.

  • Advocacy for low threshold access to substance use treatment programs
  • Access to mental health services for marginalized populations
  • Opioid Settlement funding distribution and harm reduction services
  • Civil rights for people living with HIV/AIDS and other disabilities.
  • LGBT rights advocacy
  • Minimum of a bachelors degree in human services or related work.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in community advocacy harm reduction social justice or human rights work.
  • Understanding of and commitment to aggressive advocacy on HIV/AIDS and homelessness.
  • Top-level organizing writing supervision and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to multi-level advocacy including direct action and civil disobedience.
  • Experience in writing data collection editing and electronic communications.
  • Understanding of and commitment to harm reduction principles.
  • Ability to carry out culturally appropriate and racially aware organizing work
  • Ability to speak Spanish and/or other languages a plus.
