Job Summary

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possess a high school diploma or a state-issued equivalency diploma.

  • Possess a valid drivers license and meet the qualifications to operate a department vehicle or personal vehicle for department business which is required by state and department policies.

  • Possess two years of purchasing or other applicable experience.

  • Other combinations of education or experience may be substituted.

Division Overview:

The Montana Highway Patrol (MHP) maintains jurisdiction over the highways of the fourth largest state in the country. MHP Troopers perform a vast array of tasks from providing education and maintaining traffic safety to intercepting the transit of illegal narcotics contraband and weapons as well as detecting human trafficking and other criminal activity that takes place on our highways. Our goal is to serve Montanas citizens fairly professionally and compassionately.

Job Overview:

The Purchasing Technicians main purpose is to provide excellent customer service to MHP employees. This role supports daily purchasing and supply functions while fostering positive relationships and ensuring employees receive the equipment and assistance they need.

The position is responsible for coordinating and performing purchasing and supply distribution duties including procurement distribution and surplus disposal; managing and tracking division inventories; coordinating various MHP fleet management and maintenance activities; and providing administrative support for the Section. This position reports to the Fleet and Supply Section Sergeant.

This position will also perform a variety of other duties as assigned in support of the agencys mission and objective; transport patrol cars and freight within Montana; and perform fleet inspection and coordination.

The position requires the following knowledge skills and abilities:

  • Utilize active listening and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to multi-task and process information quickly.

  • Be reliable and dependable in performing job-related tasks.

  • Knowledge of state procurement methods and techniques inventory tracking fleet management procedures and processes procurement processes and analyze supplier and equipment.
