Mechanical Engineering Intern

SBM is currently seeking a Mechanical Intern to work with our engineering staff in the Mechanical division of our London office for 16 months starting in May. Candidates will assist with design and modelling of building heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems as well as plumbing and fire protection service distribution for a variety of residential commercial industrial and institutional projects. Some field work may also be required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Become familiar with design guidelines standards and regulations associated with mechanical engineering
• Preparation of mechanical engineering design and documents ensuring accuracy adequacy and conformance to the design requirements
• Coordinate with other team members on various projects at the same time to achieve project milestones
• Accept technical guidance from designers technologists and senior staff
• When required preparation/review of tender/contract documents
• When required complete site investigations general reviews of construction and preparation of field review reports
• Work within the project team environment from preliminary stages of the design through to completion
• Coordinate mechanical aspects of projects with other discipline designs and drawings

• Completed three years towards a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited Canadian University or equivalent and enrolled to complete the Degree.
• Eligible for a 16-month co-op / internship registered through your post-secondary school.
• Experience with Provincial and local Municipality design guidelines the Ontario Building Code and other applicable Canadian Engineering standards would be considered an asset
• A good understanding of building service design
• Proficient in MS Word Excel Outlook and AutoCAD suites
• Familiarity with mechanical design/modelling tools such as Carrier HAP would be considered an asset
• Experience in building system design and/or construction considered an asset
