Job Summary

At Midland States Bank base salary is one component of our Total Rewards program. Exact compensation is determined by factors such as (but not limited to) education skills internal equity and experience. This position offers additional compensation in the form of short-term incentives (i.e. bonus and/or commission) and may include long-term incentives (i.e. stock awards). Position Summary

The Portfolio Management Intern will join the Wealth Management team to gain hands-on experience in investment analysis client service and portfolio construction. This internship offers exposure to real-world financial decision-making and provides the opportunity to contribute to projects that impact client portfolios. Working closely with Portfolio Managers and Analysts the intern will develop technical analytical and professional skills while supporting key initiatives across research client onboarding and investment operations.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Assist with investment research on third-party fund providers and asset managers.
  • Support client onboarding documentation and portfolio review preparation.
  • Contribute to the preparation of investment proposals client reports and market commentary.
  • Participate in portfolio monitoring and rebalancing activities gaining exposure to performance evaluation and risk assessment.
  • Support the due diligence process for new investment opportunities.
  • Collaborate on the creation of client communications including newsletters and market updates.
  • Attend internal meetings and may have opportunities to observe client meetings to learn relationship management in practice.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).

Position Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Finance Economics Business Administration or a related field.
  • Strong analytical quantitative and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel Word PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with financial analysis tools or portfolio management systems preferred.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated interest in finance investments and wealth management.
  • Works well independently and in a collaborative team environment.

Internship Details:

  • Internship duration: Must be available mid-May through late July 2026.
  • Schedule: Must be available MondayFriday 8:00 a.m.5:00 p.m. (40 hours/week).
  • Must reside locally and report to either the Rockford IL or Chicago IL office.
