About the Team & the Position

The Digital Division enables the delivery of AEMOs obligations through technology and improves outcomes for both internal and external stakeholders. Digital provides services to internal AEMO business units employees contractors subsidiaries such as AEMO Services external government bodies and market participants.

TheEnergy Operations - Digital Systems (EO-DS) Team delivers new development ongoing maintenance and operational support for Mission Critical Energy Grid and Real Time Operations Control Room applications. As a member of the EO-DS Leadership Team the role is responsible for 24/7/365 operation within agreed SLAs of the Digital application and systems that support key AEMO functions listed below. The role is responsible for ensuring all system maintenance tasks are performed.

Key Accountabilities

  • Leadership and direction in:
    • The management of all environments across NEM WEM and Gas domains.
    • The provision of 24/7 operational support to all mission critical systems managed by this team
    • Develop and execute theApplication Reliability Strategyaligned with enterprise technology and digital objectives
    • Lead mentor and develop a team of engineers focused on observability performance and incident response excellence (working alongside Digital peers in Incident and Service Management functions)
    • Drive a culture ofresilience collaboration and continuous improvementacross application delivery teams
  • Strong and collaborative internal and external relationships
  • Successful transition of application change into Production supporting desired business outcomes
  • Strategic management of technology risk including application cyber security standards
  • Strategic thought leadership in collaboration with Digital Leadership Team colleagues of new technology solutions to meet the emerging needs of AEMO in the fields of application production support environment management and release management
  • Ownership and management of a Digital cost centre with associated budgetary management responsibilities
  • Operational excellence of mission critical systems managed by this team including:
    • Overseeproactive monitoring alerting and automationacross production and critical pre-production environments
    • Contributing to blameless post-incident reviews in partnership with the Digital Incident Response team
    • Drive close working relationships with Digital peers to advance modern DevSecOps practices
    • Support the integration of observability and reliability into the development lifecycle

Position Requirements

Skills & Experience:

  • Significant experience in technology team leadership managing environments for multiple large cross-functional operational projects and influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders
  • Proven experience in leading a release management function that serviced multiple large project driven initiatives into the standard environments of SIT UAT Pre-Production and Production as well as additional environments for specific purposes.
  • Experience in managing technology teams that primarily support Production environments in complex mission critical domains. Strong experience in leading technology teams as they perform complex Production operations such as transferring critical services between data center with zero system downtime
  • Experience in working with DevOps style product teams and supporting their system releases and the environments they require
  • Experience in the energy industry or similarly highly regulated industry experience relevant to fit for purpose information technology and data management.
  • Experience in working closely with other internal teams/departments that provide Level 1 customer support. Ability to manage key third party providers that provide resources and skills
  • Experience in working closely with other internal teams/departments that provide IT infrastructure services. Strong stakeholder management skills with ability to play an influencing role within the organisation and especially in the Portfolio Office.
  • Experience in transforming ways of working to be aligned with product-based team models coupled with the experience in leading the high performing technology teams.
  • Strong and demonstrable customer service and negotiation skills relationship and interpersonal skills. Adept in dispute resolution and mediation skills to handle issue escalation

Must be an Australian citizen with the ability to attain and maintain an appropriate level of national security clearance.

Education/ professional Certifications:

  • Tertiary and/or post graduate qualifications in IT computing Computer Science or any appropriate discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Professional certification in the relevant disciplines are preferred
