Qualifications:
College hours high school diploma or GED
Communicate and work with students with disabilities
Maintain effective working relationships
Minimum clerical skills
Good physical and emotional condition
Work with confidential material and student records
Paraprofessional aide certificate required once employed
CPI certification once employed
Primary Purpose:
Clerical instructional and student-care assistance as assigned
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist teachers in preparing and duplicating instructional materials.
- Assist special education teachers in implementing instructional program for students.
- Assist in maintaining student data records and charts for determining student progress
- Assist with self-care of students including toileting feeding etc.
- Assist in implementing non-medical procedures such as suctioning and tube feeding.
- Assist in implementing speech and language activities as recommended bythe Speech Language Pathologist.
- Assist in implementing fine and gross motor activities as recommended bythe OT/PT.
- Assist in implementing recommended assistive technology devices to supportprogramming.
- Assist in carrying out all activities as described in the students IEP under thesupervision of the classroom teachers.
- Assist with the classroom emergency plan.
- Assist with maintaining/cleaning equipment need for student program.
- Other SHARS Duties as assigned.
- Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.
Equipment Used:
Personal computer printer calculator laminator copier fax and Smart board. Radio
communication equipment dishwasher microwave washer/dryer. Adaptive equipment:
Wheelchair Wheelchair lift Wheelchair restraints ramps locks electric changing table Hoyerlift various physical therapy equipment assistive technology including voice output devicesgastrointestinal tube (g-tube) suctioning equipment.
Working Conditions:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Moderate standingstooping kneeling pushing and pulling; regular heavy lifting of students. Moderate lifting 15 44 pounds light carrying under 15 pounds. Biological exposure to bacteria and communicablediseases.
