Role Overview
The Cost Accountant will serve as the finance lead on projects from start to finish focusing on cost analysis budgeting and reporting. This role is highly analytical and requires someone who is confident in challenging assumptions asking why and digging into data to improve project profitability. The ideal candidate will have a strong construction or manufacturing background advanced Excel skills and experience with Procore or similar project management systems.
Key Responsibilities
Review track costs and prepare monthly Budget-to-Actual reports.
Analyze labor material and overhead costs to identify opportunities for improvement.
Conduct end-of-project analyses to evaluate project performance and recommend changes.
Maintain and manage WIP (Work-in-Progress) reports.
Collaborate closely with estimators project managers and construction managers to understand and validate project costs.
Generate pay applications for projects ensuring accurate documentation and submission.
Set up and manage projects within Procore ensuring accurate data entry reporting and dashboards.
Perform advanced Excel data analysis including creating functions pivot tables and dashboards.
Identify discrepancies dig into data and resolve issues independently without handholding.
Contribute to system implementations and process improvements when necessary.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance Analytics or a related field.
5 years of experience in cost accounting project accounting or construction finance.
Strong construction manufacturing or project management experience preferred.
Advanced Excel skills (including formulas functions pivot tables and data modeling).
Experience with Procore or similar construction/project management systems.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to interpret complex data.
Confident dominant personality with excellent communication and questioning skills.
Ability to work independently manage multiple projects and interact with diverse personalities.
