The Tool Maker is responsible for manufacturing precision parts from prints using CNC and manual equipment including knee mills surface grinders saws and horizontal lathes. This role involves building and repairing internal tooling and fixtures performing detailed handwork and completing repairs on large components. The position requires strong technical skills blueprint interpretation and the ability to ensure accuracy and quality in all machining tasks.
Operate manual and CNC knee mills and horizontal lathes.
Set up and operate surface grinders for tooling modifications and detail work.
Read and interpret blueprints sketches and drawings to determine dimensions tolerances and sequence of operations.
Reverse-engineer components by documenting dimensional data or reproducing details for replacements.
Measure mark and scribe dimensions and reference points according to router instructions and shop practices.
Select align and secure holding fixtures cutting tools accessories and materials on machines.
Verify machined parts meet specifications using precision measuring instruments.
Perform handwork and fitting using tools such as files scrapers and other hand instruments.
Assemble components using wrenches hammers and precision gauges to verify alignment and fit.
Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to coordinate work activities.
Inspect and measure parts to maintain process control and ensure quality compliance.
Education:
Trade school vocational training or apprenticeship preferred.
Experience:
Proven experience as a machinist working with various materials and standard tool room equipment.
Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience preferred.
