Job Duties
The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Trade and Industrial Education Specialist serves as a statewide visionary leader and technical expert in career and technical education specializing in high-skill high-demand trade and industrial pathways. This role supports the Office of Student Pathways and Opportunities by developing implementing and sustaining rigorous industry-aligned programs that equip students with the knowledge skills and credentials needed to thrive in the future competitive workforce and/or postsecondary environments.
Through strategic collaboration with educators employers and community partners the specialist ensures that all students have access to hands-on learning work-based experiences and career exploration in fields such as manufacturing construction transportation and emerging technologies. The specialist plays a critical role in expanding student opportunities closing workforce gaps and promoting economic mobility through high-quality CTE programming.
The vision of the Board of Education and the Superintendent of Public Instruction is to ensure through high academic standards and accountability that an effective education program is established and maintained in Virginias public elementary middle and high schools. The mission in cooperation with local school boards is to build a culture of excellence that increases student learning and achievement and to support the growth of evidence-based best practices to spark student engagement and post-secondary readiness. The Board has prioritized 3E Readiness with public students earning and demonstrating that they are ready for life with options upon enrolling in college enlisting in the military or getting a job and being employed after high school.
The Office of Student Pathways and Opportunities: Supports the Division of Innovation Student Pathways and Opportunities work in postsecondary pathways to college career training and the military. This office expands access to career-ready pathways including trades skilled professions youth apprenticeships and military-readiness programs. Collaborate on high-quality work-based learning and early college initiatives across the agency and with other relevant agencies and partners. Strengthen partnerships with private-sector employers trade associations and community colleges to align education with real-world demand. Administer market and grow tax credit scholarship program use and neighborhood assistance grant opportunities that give parents of low-income students and students with disabilities additional learning options. Ensure state initiatives empower students with practical high-value skills while holding programs accountable for performance.
