Job Description

The Microbiology Division discovers microbiological solutions for the diagnostics of infectious diseases and detection of bacterial contamination. We serve public health clinical laboratories food companies environmental screening and pharmaceutical laboratories with a portfolio of products.

Position Summary:

The Engineering & Facilities Manager is primarily accountable for managing all engineering operations at our Dartford site including maintenance calibration process engineering and facilities supervision. The key aim is to maintain the facility to support all functions in a secure compliant and effective manner. You will be responsible for leading a team consisting of 4 skilled engineers and two cleaning technicians to deliver engineering services efficiently by applying lean manufacturing principles. This role is essential for fostering team development and improving performance.

A Day in the Life:

  • Ensure health & safety compliance for engineers visitors and contractors including adherence to EHS systems and statutory regulations.
  • Generate risk assessments reports and quality documentation aligned with company policies and GMP standards.
  • Enforce permit to work processes and safe systems of work to maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Lead resource planning and prioritization to meet performance metrics and ensure safe continuous production.
  • Own and manage planned maintenance calibration and service schedules to avoid manufacturing disruptions.
  • Lead capital projects with an annual budget of up to $1M.
  • Coordinate budget planning manage cost centre budgets and lead all aspects of service contracts quotations and invoices.
  • Utilise CAD to build and print innovative mechanical equipment solutions.
  • Represent the site in the global security network ensuring compliance with CTSA requirements and BSL-3 suite operational controls.
  • Promote team progression and sustained improvement through the application of lean tools daily management approaches and productive performance appraisals.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Mechanical Engineering Qualification (e.g. MEng BEng/BSc/HND/HNC)
  • Demonstrates a Safety-First attitude with a quality and customer focus
  • Strong skills in managing both mechanical and facilities operations
  • Excellent decision-making on technically sophisticated matters
  • Leads by example with a flexible approach
  • Results driven with a logical approach to problem solving and root cause analysis
  • Thrives in a multi-layered work environment leading the Engineering team forward through continuous improvement
  • It is crucial to live within 1 hour commuting distance to the Dartford facility

Preferred Qualifications/Requirements:

  • City & Guilds/BTEC/ONC in Mechanical Engineering or Controls/Instrumentation
  • Experience in Laboratory/Pharma/Food Industry in a process or packing environment
  • Proven track record on successful timely project delivery in a controlled environment
  • Experience in CAD software and 3D printing
