SUMMARY
The Online High School Equivalency (HSE) Instructor provides engaging individualized and group instruction to adult learners preparing for high school equivalency testing. This role supports students in developing reading writing math science social studies digital literacy and employability skills aligned with the College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS). The instructor fosters a positive and inclusive learning environment promotes student success and collaborates closely with Adult Education staff to ensure quality instruction and student progress.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Provide virtual instruction and academic support to enrolled Adult Education students preparing for GED or HiSET exams
  • Design and deliver lessons aligned with CCRS in reading writing mathematics science and social studies
  • Develop individualized learning plans and assist students in setting and tracking educational goals
  • Assess student skill levels and progress using student diagnostic reports and program procedures
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of attendance student progress and instructional activities in compliance with state and federal guidelines
  • Utilize a variety of digital tools and instructional strategies to engage adult learners at varying academic levels
  • Foster a supportive inclusive online classroom environment that encourages persistence and goal completion
  • Communicate regularly with students to monitor engagement provide feedback and support learning outside of class sessions
  • Collaborate with Adult Education staff to coordinate instruction referrals and support services
  • Participate in staff meetings training sessions and professional development opportunities as assigned
  • Contribute to ongoing program improvement and innovation in online instructional development and delivery
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Adult Education
  • Reports to the Director of Adult Education
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelors degree in education or a closely related field; AND
  • Minimum of one year of experience developing curriculum and instructing adults or secondary students; AND
  • Teaching certification (current or expired)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Montana residency is preferred
  • Teaching endorsement in Reading English or Mathematics.
  • Experience working with adult learners at-risk populations and nontraditional students.
  • Knowledge of community resources and agencies supporting Adult Basic Education (ABE) populations.
  • Experience assessing adult learners for skills growth and educational goal achievement.
  • Familiarity with digital learning platforms and online instructional technologies.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively teach and engage students effectively in an online environment.
  • Skill in content and teaching competencies which engage the adult student and focus on student learning
  • Ability to work with students colleagues and supervisor in a collaborative and professional manner.
  • Ability to work in a satellite location relying on technology and various modes of communication to connect with students and AE staff.
  • Ability and willingness to serve as a representative for the College by interacting appropriately with the community
  • Ability to work within policies and procedures of FVCC
  • Ability to intermittently work non-traditional schedules including evenings weekends etc.
  • Ability to maintain effective and positive professional relationships
  • Ability to follow and issue directions
  • Demonstrated communication technology presentation customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally-diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
  • Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check
  • Ability to respond effectively in the event of an emergency
  • This is a Medium Duty job according to the Selected Characteristics of Occupations Defined in the Revised Dictionary of Occupational Titles U.S. Department of Labor and Industry. Medium Duty involves exertion of 20-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-25 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds continuously to move objects.
