Performs diagnostic testing on patient samples to aid physicians in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various disease states. Will perform a variety of routine and complex testing ranging from waived to high complexity testing in all sections of the laboratory including Hematology Chemistry Blood Bank and Microbiology. Participates in patient testing quality control CAP surveys policy and procedure development and equipment maintenance.

Essential Functions:

Follows standardized procedures and helps prepare samples for testing.
Recognizes and acts immediately to correct errors in the performance of tests and procedures reporting promptly to the immediate supervisor.
Performs Quality Assurance work to ensure accuracy of equipment to include QC and preventive and corrective maintenance and associated documentation.
Performs specialized techniques/projects under the supervision of the Lab Manager and Laboratory Director.
Collects samples and analyzes bodily fluids and substances for abnormalities. Collects blood and tests blood samples used for pre-transfusion testing.
Operates laboratory equipment in a high-quality effective manner.
Analyzes test results for accuracy acceptability and critical limits and reports/documents results per organizational standards.
Performs automated tests using computerized instruments and automated equipment.
Performs manual tests based on established policies and procedures and accepted laboratory practice.
Runs tests and analyzes the results to be reported to the provider or registered nurse in a timely manner.
Assists in the training and education of MLT students.
Participates in continuing and mandatory educational activities in a timely manner meeting expected deadlines on own initiative.
Assists laboratory perform functions to meet regulatory compliance.



Minimum EducationAssociates Degree in Medical Lab Technician or Clinical Lab Technician required.
Required SkillsRequires critical thinking skills decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Certifications:ASCP or AMT preferred within 3 months of hire.
Minimum Work Experience1-3 years laboratory experience preferred.
