Job Summary:
The Payment Application Specialist is responsible for accurately posting and reconciling payments from payers and patients to patient accounts. This role ensures timely and correct application of funds received via electronic remittance advice (ERA) lockbox and manual checks. The ideal candidate will have experience in the infusion or healthcare space and a strong understanding of insurance remittance EOBs and patient billing.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Accurately post payments and adjustments to patient accounts from ERA files paper EOBs and patient payments
- Reconcile daily deposits and ensure all payments are applied in a timely and accurate manner
- Review and resolve payment discrepancies and denials in coordination with billing and collections teams
- Collaborate with payers and internal teams to resolve posting issues including misapplied or missing payments
- Ensure compliance with payer guidelines and internal controls related to posting and reconciliation
- Maintain thorough documentation of payment activities for auditing and reporting purposes
- Assist with month-end close processes and reporting as needed
- Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding payment posting
- Continuously monitor accounts for posting errors or irregularities and take corrective actions
Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 2 years of experience in medical billing or cash posting preferably in an infusion or specialty healthcare setting
- Strong understanding of EOBs ERAs and healthcare payer remittance processes
- Familiarity with infusion-specific billing systems and payer types (Medicare commercial specialty pharmacy etc.)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with billing software (e.g. WeInfuse Kareo AdvancedMD Waystar or similar)
- Excellent attention to detail organization and time management skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
