Key responsibilities

General ledger and daily operations: Oversee daily accounting operations like accounts payable accounts receivable and payroll ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately.

Compliance and audits: Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and tax regulations. Assist with external and internal audits manage tax filings and maintain accurate fiscal records.

Budgeting and forecasting: Manage the budgeting and forecasting processes and track performance against targets.

Internal controls: Develop and implement internal controls and policies to safeguard assets and maintain financial data integrity.

Mentorship and process improvement: Provide guidance and training to junior accounting staff. Work to streamline processes improve efficiency and assist with strategic initiatives.

Qualifications and skills

Education: Bachelors degree in accounting finance or a related field is required. A masters degree or MBA may be preferred for some roles.

Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in accounting is typically required often with more needed for senior-level roles.

Certifications: While not always mandatory professional certifications like Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) are often strongly preferred and can be required for certain responsibilities like external audits or SEC filings.

Skills: Strong analytical and quantitative skills attention to detail and knowledge of accounting software are essential. Excellent time management multitasking and communication skills are also critical for managing responsibilities and team members.

Required Skills:

Work experience as an Accountant. Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Hands-on experience with accounting software like FreshBooks and QuickBooks. Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables.
