Duties and Responsibilities

1. *Works under the direction and supervision of the Preservation Librarian to perform a variety of tasks related to the preservation of librarys materials.

2. *Manages monograph commercial binding and shelf preparation program.

3.*Manages and executes library conservation treatment program for paper-based circulating materials.

4. Under consultation with the preservation librarian provides treatment for non-circulating bound items.

5.*Operates and coordinates the reformatting program following nationally established preservation standards. Communicates and coordinates the workflow with vendors or parties who execute the reformatting process. Manages and performs a series of routine tasks prior and subsequent to the reformatting process including supervising student assistants on the projects. Assists the preservation librarian in planning budgeting and contracting the reformatting projects.

10. *Hires trains and supervises student assistants.

12.*Responds to collection emergencies and executes collection care-related special projects. Examples include but are not limited to mold outbreaks water leaks and moving collections.

Minimum Qualifications

of a baccalaureate degree in the Humanities or Sciences and three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience with collection care and/or conservation for bound paper-based materials; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.

working knowledge of principles practices and techniques in the field ofpreservation and conservation as demonstrated by broad knowledge of a full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts principles and methodologies.

working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws rules regulations and theories and systems.

ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective innovative and timely manner.

ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.

ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team leaders and members and individuals.

ability to use various software applications including word-processing and spreadsheet programs

supervisory work demonstrated ability to lead subordinates manage work priorities and projects and manage employee relations.
