Position Summary and Scope of Service

Reporting to the Manager Safety Security & Risk Management and consistent with the Mission Values and Policies of the Coordinator Safety and Health is a critical role in ensuring the success of business and operations. Exemplifying the mission vision and values of the Coordinator Safety and Health works collaboratively with partnered programs while offering employees respectful customer service. The Coordinator Safety and Health is tasked with the ongoing improvement of the workplace safety program maintaining compliance with the Manitoba Workplace Safety & Health Act and regulations and assisting with investigations of workplace incidents and the resolution of workplace concerns.

This position acts as a resource in the design delivery and management of the evaluation of workplace safety programs including activities associated with developing and updating Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and safe work practices internal safety audits and training.

Qualifications

  • Relevant post-secondary education or a combination of related training and work experience and may include: Occupational Health and Safety Diploma Program and/or Registration or pursuit thereof a CRSP or CIH designation is preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of management systems (i.e. ISO 31000 and ISO 45001 Manitobas Safe Work Certification) safety principles concepts and procedures
  • Working knowledge of workplace safety and health regulations is required and knowledge of Provincial and National Fire Codes is considered an asset
  • Skilled in the use of computers and applicable data management and presentation software (i.e. Microsoft Office)
  • Knowledge of the structure regulations and legislation of Family Services Child and Family Services and Residential Care Licensing is an asset
  • Ability to organize prioritize work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work with minimal supervision as well as a collaborative team player in a team environment
  • Ability to generate ideas to improve work procedures and contribute to an environment that fosters growth development and innovation
  • Bilingual (French/English) is an asset

Duties and Responsibilities

Program/Service Support

Consistent with the Mission Philosophy and Policies of the Coordinator Safety and Health is a subject matter expert on safety conformance and compliance and a process leader for many elements to the safety system. Quality services are evident when professional communication timeliness accuracy ethical awareness/sensitivity confidentiality are consistently demonstrated as required by legislation and program/service standard.

Duties include:

  • Participates in the regular review of the Emergency Measures program including policies procedures incident command system and supports workforce training of incident codes
  • Ability to effectively act in a neutral capacity in matters related to accident investigation health and safety regulatory matters
  • Maintains a fire safety training plan and identifies opportunities for improvement
  • Develops and provides key trainings that have been tasked to the Operations Department (i.e. fit testing hearing Conservation selection and use of Personal Protective Equipment)
  • Maintains the safety incident reporting software program and monitors incidents trends and reports indicators entered into the database
  • Maintains safety compliance monitoring software
  • As identified by the Safety Committee develops evaluates and recommends safety initiatives and updates to safety program information
  • Maintains the WHMIS program including an up-to-date WHMIS inventory and on-going training
  • Ensures that a Contractor Safety Program is effective
  • Participates in external meetings and committees as assigned
