POSITION SPECIFICS

The Penn State Abington Division of Student Affairs seeks a dynamic and engaging individual who is committed to advancing student health and wellness initiatives support and provide supervision to the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) unit. The CAPS Supervisor working collaboratively with campus and community partners is responsible for developing programs initiatives and resources that promote holistic student health and wellness.

The Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) Supervisor provides leadership and oversight of mental health services for students. This role includes direct clinical care supervision of CAPS clinical staff operational management and collaboration with campus stakeholders. CAPS is a unit within Student Affairs committed to holistic development equity and belonging for all students.

The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal written and verbal communication and organizational skills. They will be flexible creative empathetic and demonstrate a desire to work in a student-facing fast-paced environment as part of a student-focused team that promotes and cultivates an environment that is welcoming inclusive and supportive. The position requires working on some evening and weekend events.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide direct clinical services including individual and group counseling and crisis intervention to Abington students.

  • Provide leadership through clinical meetings with CAPS staff as well as meetings with campus stakeholders.

  • Coordinates the hiring and evaluation process for CAPS.The Director provides clinical supervision to professional CAPS staff. The Director will also provide leadership working with staff (licensed and unlicensed) to establish services priorities procedures and programs to best meet the needs of our students.

  • Manages operations and serves as the budget administrator for CAPS.

  • Serve as primary point of contact for campus constituencies and family members who seek consultation.

  • Serve on campus committees such as Behavioral Threat Management Team Emergency Management Team and Senior Back Up rotation.Will keep open communication with the Commonwealth Campus liaison at Penn State University Park CAPS.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters or Doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology or a related mental health field from an accredited institution of higher learning.

  • Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker - Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Counselorswith at least five to eight years of experience in a related field.

  • A background in a college counseling center setting including experience in management/supervisory roles

  • Familiarity with the clinical legal and ethical aspects of treating college students.

  • Experience with crisis management response skills.

  • Preference will also be given to candidates with excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with counseling staff and campus partners.

MINIMUM EDUCATION WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Masters Degree 3 years of relevant experience Required Certifications: Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker - Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Counselors

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position including all possible grades is $56200.00 - $81500.00.
