POSITION TITLE: PART-TIME VALLSS INSTRUCTOR
REPORTS TO: BUILDING PRINCIPAL/OFFICE OF ELEMENTARY ENGLISH
OVER-TIME STATUS: NON-EXEMPT PAY: PER HOUR
JOB SUMMARY:
This is a part-time (29 hours per week) position that will work under the supervision of the school principal and the Office of Elementary English. The VALLSS Instructor is responsible for implementing early literacy intervention instruction for students. As determined by identified student needs this individual will be assigned to work with multiple small groups of students. Ongoing professional development will be an integral part of this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Assist in the administration of the VALLSS Screener as determined by the Office of Elementary English three times per year and assist with the interpretation of results of the VALLSS Screener.
- Provide instructional lessons to reach achievement goals for individual students and targeted student groups in collaboration with classroom teachers and/or reading specialists..
- Become knowledgeable of teaching methods and materials to support early literacy development.
- Prepare instructional materials; performs designated literacy lessons with students; uses supplementary learning materials as needed
- Administer assessment tools to assess student abilities related to desired educational goals objectives and outcomes; assists in assessing and evaluating student achievement.
- Collaborate with teachers and reading specialists in both written and oral formats to share information regarding student achievement.
- Maintain accurate records of student data.
- Follow the instructional schedule provided.
- Attend mandatory monthly professional learning provided by the VALLSS Coordinator.
- Complete the VALLS Training Modules.
- Appraise his/her own effectiveness and demonstrate successful application of skills and information acquired to increase effectiveness.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily; ability to maintain confidential files and information and to compile reports; ability to deal effectively with students and teachers; skill in the use of classroom and instructional equipment; ability to operate audio visual standard office word and data processing equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers parents students and the general public.
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public using the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see read talk hear handle or feel objects and controls. Frequent sitting walking bending grasping fingering repetitive motion and reaching. Occasional standing stooping crouching and kneeling. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds rarely. Requires timely and regular adherence to established work schedules. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Applicants must possess either of the following: an associates degree or 48 semester credit hours (2 years) at an accredited college or university or have successfully passed the ParaPro exam (score of at least 455) and have experience teaching reading/working with student reading groups at the elementary level.
