This internship offers valuable insights into how a global non-profit operates with a specific focus on strategic and hands-on communications digital storytelling and campaign and event coordination.

Throughout your internship you will actively contribute to key communications functions including social media management website updates campaigns and event communications. With guidance and support from the Head of Communications you will have the opportunity to take ownership of your own tasks and projects gain hands-on experience in digital content creation and campaign and project coordination and develop essential professional skills within the field of global health communications.

Your Role

You will work closely with our Communication Team and wider External Relations unit assisting with day-to-day tasks while also engaging in larger communications initiatives. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting event-related communications and logistics including the planning and execution of local & global campaigns and digital initiatives with a focus on 2026 Mothers Day.
  • Liaising with regional and programme teams across offices in Ethiopia India and Denmark to communicate about our work and impact across social media and our website.
  • Updating website pages and supporting content development (hum interest stories news and highlights).
  • Providing general administrative and ad-hoc support to the communications department.

Practicalities

The internship is for the Spring term 2026 for a minimum of three months (e.g. MarchMay). It can be pursued part-time (approx. 1015 hours per week) with flexibility to accommodate academic schedules.

The role can be based in Copenhagen (HQ) or remote with standard working hours from 9:00 to 17:00 CET and flexibility upon agreement. You will have regular check-ins with your supervisor to support your learning and professional development.

Who You Are

We are looking for a proactive and creative person with a collaborative attitude and eagerness to learn. You are required to be a Bachelors or Masters student with communications or related fields. The internship should preferably be integrated into an academic programme. As this is an unpaid position applicants should receive financial support from a third party (e.g. SU/CSN/Erasmus Stipendium or another student funding source).

Qualifications & Experience

  • Currently studying Communications Journalism Marketing International Development or a related field.
  • Strong writing and editing skills in English (Danish is an advantage).
  • Experience or interest in social media digital storytelling and communications for non-profits.
  • Familiarity with Canva WordPress (or similar CMS) and social media scheduling tools is desirable.
  • Passionate about Maternity Foundations mission and global maternal health.

Personal Qualities

  • Creative proactive and able to work independently.
  • Organized with a good eye for design and detail.
  • Collaborative and comfortable working with multicultural teams across time zones.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to contribute to a dynamic communications team.

About Maternity Foundation

Maternity Foundation (MF) is an international non-profit organisation that works to ensure safer births for women and newborns through innovative programmes and digital solutions. From 2025 MF will accelerate the impact of the Safe Delivery Programme a comprehensive evidence-based micro-learning universe with the Safe Delivery App a free evidence-based job aid learning and training tool designed to support predominantly midwives.

The programme holistically addresses maternal and newborn healthcare challenges through a multitude of activities including a new Sub-Saharan Africa flagship initiative. The Safe Delivery Programme takes a lighthouse approach where exemplary cutting-edge practices act as frontrunners for innovative change that other countries can subsequently follow.
