Job Summary

Assistant Professor of Social and Criminal Justice
Coe College invites applications from dynamic student-centered individuals for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2026.
The success of Coe College is driven by the success of our graduates. Therefore we place a priority on recruiting faculty who can fully engage students both in and out of the classroom. The successful candidate should expect to offer quality instruction at all levels of the curriculum across a range of topics from introductory to more specialized courses. There will be the opportunity to develop new courses based on area of expertise. Teaching load is three courses per semester (3-3).
An interdisciplinary program collaborating with Sociology and Philosophy this major focuses on the administration of the criminal justice system with special emphasis on the disparate treatment of marginalized groups. The ability to teach in the colleges African American Studies program is a plus. Program faculty also have the opportunity to contribute to the Justice Learning Initiative.
Required Qualifications:
  • J.D. or Ph.D. in Criminal Justice Criminology Sociology or closely related field (complete by August 2026).
  • Ability to teach a broad array of courses in the Social and Criminal Justice curriculum including Introduction to Social and Criminal Justice Police and Society Collateral Consequences of Corrections Juvenile Delinquency and the Juvenile Justice System and/or Criminal Law.
  • Enthusiasm for service to the program college and community.
  • Strong interest in teaching advising and mentoring undergraduate students and the ability to offer a section of First Year Seminar for incoming students.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States as we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.
  • Successful completion of a background check in accordance with Coe College policy.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to teach 1-2 courses per year in the African American Studies program including Introduction to African American Studies.
