Position Summary
The Law Clerk will provide support to both UHNs Legal Affairs and People & Culture Departments specifically within the Labour and Employment Law areas. This position involves providing legal and administrative support related to labour relations employment law workplace investigations litigation and compliance matters. The successful candidate will contribute to the effective delivery of legal services and help ensure alignment with UHNs values and regulatory obligations.
Duties
- Provide legal and administrative support to in-house counsel in the Labour and Employment Law groups.
- Assist with the preparation review and management of legal documents including correspondence pleadings settlement agreements and tribunal filings.
- Support workplace investigations by organizing documentation preparing summaries and maintaining confidentiality.
- Coordinate scheduling for hearings mediations arbitrations and meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain and organize legal files databases and records related to labour and employment matters.
- Liaise with external counsel union representatives and internal departments to facilitate legal processes.
- Track deadlines and ensure timely submissions to courts tribunals and regulatory bodies.
- Assist with legal research and the preparation of briefing materials and reports.
- Support the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to employment law and labour relations.
Qualifications :
- Completion of a 2-year community college program in Law Clerk/Legal Administration or recognized equivalent.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience preferably in labour and employment law.
- Strong understanding of employment standards labour relations legislation human rights law and workplace safety regulations.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism.
- Highly organized with strong time management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and legal document management systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in the healthcare sector or a unionized environment is considered an asset.
