Associate Producer assigned to visuals - CBC News Calgary

CBC Calgary is seeking a skilled associate producer to join our visual storytelling team

A forward-thinking self-starter you thrive in the fast-paced high-pressure world of news.

Reporting to the Senior Producer Visuals you will edit package and deliver content for CBC News platforms including digital video platforms (FAST YouTube etc.) and television. With the creative use of video still images graphics and other visual storytelling techniques you know how to package video. You also have the tech savvy to support the visuals team in going live on streaming platforms for breaking news storiesreaching audiences where they are and when they need us.

As someone who lives and breathes the news you are a critical thinker and an excellent communicator with an abundance of original story pitches and excellent writing skills. That includes the ability to write video titles and descriptions for social media platforms. You have the skills to gather content from the field

You are just as comfortable working to the tight deadlines of our multiple daily news video deliveries as you are with deliverables on a longer timeline. You enjoy both collaborating with colleagues and doing independent work. You are a strong problem solver and reliable trouble-shooter.

In this role you will ensure that all CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories are fair balanced accurate impartial and told with integrity.

You understand the people who live and work in Albertas distinct political climate and energy-driven economy. You love it when you meet someone with a different perspective and life experience than your own.

Possessing a positive and collaborative attitude you care about the people you work with and have a deep appreciation for different perspectives opinions and experiences. This role requires a full-time on site presence. The regular schedule for this position is Monday to Friday. The successful candidate must be flexible around working varied shifts including early mornings evenings and weekends.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • Excellent video editing skills.

  • Excellent critical thinking skills.

  • Strong writing skills

  • Creative visual storytelling experience.

  • Demonstrated editorial judgment in breaking news and enterprise journalism.

  • In depth knowledge of video and audio standards file formats and codecs

  • Knowledge of video production systems such as the Avid ecosystem or Adobe Premiere Pro or similar as well as software-based mixing systems

  • Ability to develop content including gathering researching creating and manipulating

  • Knowledge of user-generated content and social media techniques and policies.

  • Experience with daily deliverables and the ability to respond to the pressures of breaking news

  • Ability to manage large volumes of fast-moving information and ensure material is directed appropriately.

  • Strong organizational skills; ability to handle a variety of functions quickly and efficiently and meet multiple deadlines on multiple platforms.

  • Strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.

  • Ability to work flexible hours and overtime is required.

  • A post-secondary degree or equivalent combination of education and experience along with three years of experience relevant to journalism during which the candidate would gain exposure to daily journalism and video technology.

  • Valid drivers license and a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canadas insurance company.
