The Student Assistant/Peer Support provides support to students requiring mental health accommodation and basic needs assistance by creating a safe space for discussion approaching students in need and referring them to appropriate resources. This role is essential in ensuring the accessibility and equal learning opportunities for all students. The Student Assistant/Peer Support will work closely with the Licensed Clinical Supervisor Coordinator of Disability and Accessibility Services and Sr. Director of Wellness for guidance training and to maintain confidentiality and uphold ethics in the department of Wellness.
Key Responsibilities:
Create an environment of safety for students to engage in discussion around mental health issues disability and accessibility concerns and basic needs.
Provide introductory workshops and tabling and campus events representing wellness and providing information on mental health disability and accessibility basic needs and wellness services.
Assist with the creation distribution and timely maintenance of flyers social media posting and marketing materials for Wellness Services.
Follow guidelines and trainings provided by Wellness Services and Disability and Accessibility Services.
Maintain confidentiality of all student-related information and comply with FERPA regulations.
Attend weekly supervision meetings with the licensed clinical supervisor and/or designee.
Be punctual and appropriately dressed for all scheduled shifts and assignments.
Report any risk factors such as disclosures of suicide self-harm harm to others child abuse or elder abuse to an immediate supervisor designee or staff person.
Assist with wellness class or workshop preparations such as room setup or reset scheduling and food order receiving.
Qualifications:
Must be a current student at SFBU in good academic standing with strong writing organizational and communication skills.
Proficient in written English grammar and organization.
Legible handwriting accurate spelling and proficiency in the use of computers.
Ability to communicate with students of varied multicultural backgrounds.
Ability to listen actively and effectively provide empathy and record information accurately.
Reliable punctual good work ethic and professional demeanor.
Understanding of accessibility and mental health needs and willingness to support students requiring assistance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree with strong writing organizational and communication skills.
Knowledge of mental health disability and accessibility and basic need topics and issues.
Comfort in having conversations that may be mentally challenging or demanding.
Work Schedule:
Varies Monday - Friday between 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM
Approximately 10-15 hours per week.
Must be available during weekdays. Some evening and weekend assignments are possible.
Pay Rate:
$20.00 per hour.
