Job Summary

As a key contributor to the success of the artistic operations team this positions responsibilities include:


In collaboration with team members acts as the artist liaison for guest conductors & soloists. Works assigned concert duties as Back of House Manager for the Classical Subscription series and other concert series as assigned such as: Pops New Years Eve DSO on the Go Organ recital series Dallas Symphony Presents and Parks concerts.


Oversees the planning and execution of visiting guest conductor weeks primarily for the Classical subscription series which involves: drafting/issuing/and tracking their contracts & riders obtaining string counts & rehearsal orders and issuing their itineraries.


Petitions for O-1B visas for classical guest conductors and guest artists as necessary. Tracks fee payments for all classical guest conductors and guest soloists (with assistance from the Director of Artistic & Chorus Administration) and arranges logistics such as car services and rider requirements for all classical guest conductors and guest artists as required. Creates and tracks itineraries for all classical guest conductors and guest artists (with assistance from the Director of Artistic & Chorus Administration).


As assigned schedules piano organ and harpsichord maintenance. Schedules private practice times & piano selections for classical guest artists.


Additionally with the Director of Orchestra Operations and Pops Programming oversees logistics for touring including managing the visa process CITES compliance travel and housing for orchestra and staff on run-outs residencies and domestic/international tours. Assists with CARNET and cargo arrangements as needed by the Director of Operations.

Requirements
  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum 34 years of experience in artistic administration ideally with a symphonic orchestra or a related field
  • Background in Classical Music Performance Music History or Arts Management
  • A deep and broad knowledge respect for and natural curiosity about the classical/operatic/chamber repertoires conductors soloists & composers
  • The ideal candidate will be a knowledgeable and clear communicator who can easily converse with guest artists for extended periods of time
  • Must be comfortable with a variety of personalities in multiple settings some of which include high-pressure situations coupled with good judgment and strong emotional intelligence
  • Must be highly organized
  • Must be a self-starter
  • Knowledge of and working experience in the world of the performing arts are important prerequisites
  • Some evening or weekend hours may be required

Preferences

  • Knowledge of orchestra administration & structure
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience in using OPAS software
