Position Title: IBDP English Teacher
Location: Sarjapur Bangalore
Reporting to: Head of Secondary / IBDP Coordinator / Head of English Department

Role Purpose

To plan deliver and assess the IBDP English Language and Literature course (HL/SL) in accordance with IB standards and philosophy. The teacher will inspire students to explore literature and language critically foster a love of reading and writing and prepare them for both internal and external assessments. The role also involves collaboration with colleagues mentorship and participation in the wider school community.


Key Responsibilities

  • Teach IBDP English Language and Literature (HL/SL) to Grades 11 and 12.

  • Plan and deliver engaging inquiry-based lessons aligned with IB curriculum standards.

  • Develop students critical analysis interpretive and communication skills.

  • Guide students through the Individual Oral (IO) and Higher-Level Essay (HLE) components.

  • Prepare students for external IB examinations and ensure consistent progress tracking.

  • Use a variety of literary and non-literary texts to promote global and intercultural understanding.

  • Design formative and summative assessments aligned with IB criteria.

  • Maintain records of student progress and provide constructive feedback.

  • Support students with the Extended Essay (EE) process where relevant.

  • Participate in departmental planning and collaborative curriculum development.

  • Contribute to co-curricular activities such as debate theatre or creative writing clubs.

  • Engage in professional development including IB Category 1 or 2 workshops.

  • Uphold the IB Learner Profile and the schools academic and ethical standards.


Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in English Literature English Language or a related field.

  • Minimum 3 years of teaching experience in English at the secondary or higher secondary level.

  • Strong understanding of literary analysis stylistics and communication skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English.

  • Familiarity with or willingness to undergo training in the IB curriculum framework.

  • Proficiency in technology for teaching and assessment.

  • Ability to create engaging student-centered lessons.

Desirable

  • Prior experience teaching IBDP English (Language & Literature or Literature) HL/SL.

  • IB Category 1 or 2 training certification.

  • Experience teaching Cambridge IGCSE English Language or Literature.

  • Experience mentoring Extended Essay or other independent research projects.

  • Experience working in international or multicultural schools.

  • Involvement in creative arts writing or drama.
