Founded in 1972 Mission Graduates offers a comprehensive range of afterschool in-school and summer programs working to establish a college education as an expectation and goal for every child. Each year Mission Graduates reaches over 3600 low-income children youth and families in San Francisco emphasizing college as a means to achieve economic equity and strengthen the fabric of our community.
Program Overview: The Extended Day Program (EDP) is an award-winning afterschool academic enrichment program serving over 1000 students at eight schools: Alvarado ES Bryant ES Cleveland ES Flynn ES Everett Middle School Marshall ES Sanchez ES and Thomas Edison Charter Academy.
Position Summary: Assists in the direct delivery of instruction in a classroom setting with pupils who have moderate to severe impairing conditions as determined by an individualized education program (IEP). The primary objective of such assistance is to affect learning for mastery by implementing both developmental and remedial methods in basic skill areas and content areas. The employee assists staff by implementing lesson plans (activities that include reviewing and completing pupils work) participating in parent conferences maintaining relevant records operating instructional equipment in appropriate instructional settings and performing related duties as required.
Key Responsibilities & Primary Duties
- Must be able to work Mondays Tuesdays Thursdays Fridays: 2:00-5:00 pm and Wednesdays 1:00-5:00 pm
- Utilizes knowledge appropriate to satisfy the Distinguishing Characteristics of the class listed above examples of which may include familiarity with teaching methods instructional media test scoring school organization and school rules and regulations.
- Demonstrates competency in performing the following tasks: working with pupils who have been designated non-severely impaired by an IEP acting quickly and effectively in emergencies working with and relating to all individuals within the culturally diverse environment of the school community
- Developing and maintaining effective courteous communications with pupils staff and the public.
Required Qualifications
- 4 years of proven experience and ability in working in education and/or youth programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with the best practices in youth development program planning curriculum development methods of teaching and evaluation.
- BA or BS required
- TB test clearance is mandatory prior to hire.
- Experience working in communities of color with low-income populations.
$28 - $31 an hour
Benefits Package: includes fully paid Medical Dental and Vision; access to Pre-Tax Commuter Benefits as well as access to 403(b) account at time of hire. We also offer an employer contribution for eligible staff* (eligibility to be explained at time of hire). In addition we offer 13 paid holidays per year as well as 8 personal hours per year and accrue PTO. Accrual rates depend on length of employment with Mission Graduates.
