Permanent Part-Time 45 hrs a fortnight Monday to Friday (no weekend work)

About the role

The role is comprehensive focusing on the delivery maintenance and compliance of the hospitals IPC program in accordance with NSQHS Standards LARU private hospital standards and best practice clinical standards. You will drive efforts to prevent Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) by adherence to hospital IPC compliance/policy and protocol implementation managing surveillance and outbreak responses staff education pre-employment immunisation.

Key Responsibilities Include:

1. Program Management & Compliance

Delivering and maintaining the hospitals IPC program.

Ensuring compliance with National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standard 3 and LARU private hospital licensing standards.

Developing implementing reviewing and updating IPC policies and procedures.

2. Surveillance & Outbreak Management

Monitoring infection rates and trends through hospital-wide HAI surveillance (in alignment with HISWA).

Supporting clinical areas during infection outbreaks and ensuring timely communication and containment.

Leading IPC surveillance audits and quality improvement initiatives.

3. Education & Advocacy

Delivering IPC education to clinical and non-clinical staff.

Customising and developing IPC training to address identified staff skills gaps.

Promoting hand hygiene compliance and antimicrobial stewardship.

4. Staff Health & Screening

Overseeing the pre-employment immunisation program and staff immunisation programs.

Overseeing pre-employment health screening.

5. Collaboration

  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and managers to enhance IPC practices and meet organisational objectives.

About You

Essential Requirements:

Experience in an IPC role coordinating a hospital-wide program.

Completion of an IPC foundations course (e.g. ACIPC course) or post-graduate qualifications in IPC.

Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.

Qualified and experienced nurse immuniser.

Advanced clinical knowledge and experience with the HISWA surveillance program.

Knowledge and experience with NSQHS Standards accreditation.

Proven ability to deliver and customise IPC education and advanced skills in policy and data management (including proficiency in Microsoft Excel).

You will be required to have or able to obtain:

Verification of eligibility to work in Australia.

Provision of the minimum identify proofing requirements.

Successful Police check clearance.

Working with Children (WWC) check.

Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (APHRA).

Successful Pre-employment Health Assessment.

Highly Desirable (But Not Essential):

National Hand Hygiene Initiative (NHHI) Gold Standard auditor.

Knowledge of AS/NZS 5369 and its applicability to Central Sterilisation Services Department (CSSD) functions/processes.

Experienced with LARU private hospital licensing and accreditation.

Knowledge of the requirements associated with the National Standards for Mental Health Services.

Demonstrated clinical experience in clinical specialty areas of procedural services and mental health.
